Kidney pain

Am 5 weeks out and last night my kidneys started to hurt but today they hurt pretty darn bad, has anyone had any kidney problems after surgery? I drink tons of water (hardly anything else, maybe a diet snapple here and there) and I've never had kidney problems in the past either!

Ummm, these two systems (GI and GU) are not related... so if something has popped up, it's likely not related to the sleeve. But PAIN is no fun, see your MD!!!

how do you know it is kidney pain and not back pain? or even GI pain? if it is not transient I agree with Arts137 get it evaluated.

Kidney pain can be related to surgery... I've got 2 kidney stones a month after mine... There are a few reasons why you can get them.. You should google it & call your doctor

Seems to be a popular topic today! I was hospitalized about a month after surgery with bilateral kidney stones. I had a history of them in the past. Because my fluid intake dropped so dramatically, the stone nailed me hard time. I had three surgeries afterwards and have not had a single problem since.

If you have ever had kidney pain, you can immediately tell the difference between back pain and kidney pain. I have suffered from both in the past and I would take back pain any day over kidney pain. Aside from a bone marrow biopsy, kidney stones gave me the worst pain I've had in my entire life. It is relentless.

AMEN!! There is NO pain like kidney stones!!!

I am 4 weeks out and had something similar - but it was only on one side. I have had kidney stones before and I sincerely thought it was that. In concert with the pain, my left side, around where the incisions were made, also became swollen. It comes and goes now, but when i spoke to my surgeon about it his response was 'that's a first - pain radiating out from where you're saying it is..Sure it's not gas?'... Well, I upped my gas meds and added cranberry concentrate to my water for good measure. So far so good. Gas or not, the pain felt different - but it didn't give me the full malaise that kidney stones gave me originally.. I'm putting it down to 'sluggish tubes' and have seriously made an effort to consume more fluid. Sorry you're feeling rough. Maybe try the cranberry concentrate or cranberry tablets from your health food shop?
