Gas after protein shakes?

I was sleeved 10/2 and have has a pretty easy and uneventful recovery so far.

My first week was all clear fluids and then full liquids the second week. I have been starting my days with a premier Protein drink (which I drank post op w no problems). After I drink the shake I feel like my stomach fills with gas and I am very burpy and uncomfortable. The rest of the day continues like that and it is a struggle to get anything else in. It almost feels like I am all stopped up. And when I drink Water and have a yogurt or Soup it feels like it is all just sitting on top of the gas.

Has anyone else had this issue? How long did it last?

I'm going to try a yogurt for Breakfast tomorrow and see if that helps.

  • I have had this same issue. The protein shakes give me horrible gas and send me running to the bathroom. Someone said to use a soy based instead of the whey. I'm going to try that.

LUCKY YOU!! That protein drink sends me right to the bathroom. It's like a diuretic...sorry TMI!! Yogurt goes down pretty easy but anything dairy sets my tummy on fire so be careful!

Are you mixing them in a blender? it can whip alot of air into them, Try a shaker or just mixing with a spoon. Also try to add more liquid.

I am still pre-op, but I had to stop putting mine in the blender, too. Major difference by shaking in a bottle.

Try to take a dairy digestive pill. I had that problem but I tried having that shake with those pills from equate and it was completely FINE. Not sure if it'll work for you, but it worked for me. Worth a try...
