January Dates

I am starting this so all of us who are beginning 2013 in a big way can share stories, advice and experiences.

My surgery date is 1/21/13 and this has been a year long journey for me. I began last December with a physical and my Dr. and I decided it was time. I had to go through 6 months of weigh-ins and visits with the nutritionist before I was even allowed to see the surgeon. I finally met him in July and then was given a whole new list of tests and appointments that needed to be done. My insurance finally approved me earlier this month, but only for surgery after January 1, so January 21st it is.

I am so excited to start this journey and thank you all in advance for sharing your experiences here!

THANK YOU everyone for your supprt' date=' prayers, and thoughts! I had my emergency surgery this morning...no additional cuts, they already went through my incisions. Surgeon said there was a kink in my small intestine...one of the stiches or something kinked it up. I was throwing up all night, bad burping, bad reflux, but everything seems fine now. Tomorrow i will do another swallow study and hopefully get to drink some water. I havn't drank since Monday! I feel much much much better. My surgeon is from a center of excellance and very very well known, so complications do happen. I went into the surgery not expecting it to be bad, but it happens . Wish me luck on final swallow study tomorrow and I should be home by Ssturday if all is well. THANKS TO YOU ALL <33[/quote']

I'm so happy to hear your doing so much better!!! Hopefully they will allow you to swish & spit immediately following the upper GI : ) Fingers crossed!!!

I hope everyone is doing ok today.... This liquid diet is kicking my ass... I fubbed up today and had 3 pieces of chocolate... Im not doing so great right now being very hard on myself. . Has anyone else had a really hard time with this diet?

It is tough. I wasn't perfect on it. But oh well. Just do the best you can. No one asks for perfection during this stage, just a shrinking liver.

Wonderful news! I am so happy it was nothing to major and you are feeling better. I am also going to a center for excellence and that makes me feel a little better. Keep us updated and I hope your swallow study goes well

Anyone else having amazing grumbling going on in their belly? I was "running" to the bathroom every time it started but just ended up sitting there listening to it rumble. I have had a few movements' date=' but they were not solid and the grumbling only stops for a few minutes after I go. I hope someone else with surgery 1/14 is having this same thing and maybe someone a week further out can tell me when it went away!![/quote']

Yup, happened to me too, crazy isn't it. My DOS was 1/10/13 and I began to hear it at about day 2. Continued a few days and is more rare now. Just your new tummy getting used to what is being put in it and letting you know it's working. I would be more concerned if its accompanied by pain or severe diarrhea.

Will your cold affect the surgery? Hope you feel better

Best news of all? I've been passing gas! Lol! I think I'm on my way now and the long bumpy road is about to finally smoothen a bit :) By the way, passing gas is a GREAT SIGN. All you post-oppers must look for this. I've been walking TONS and this seems to be the ONLY thing that helps. After 4 days, I think I may be able to try ice chips and water today at the hospital after swallow test. Very excited!

No worries....with my 2 week liquid diet I had a few cheat times. I feel it was necessary so as to prevent not only insanity, but a full blown binge. It helped me get through it. Just don't overdue it. Very, very minor cheats if you must. Remember, you are only human!

So great to hear that your second surgery went well. The walking really helped me as well. When the pain got bad, I got up and walked the hall. It made a huge difference in the pain level and I've been doing it at home too. It is the only thing that seems to stop the grumbling monsters in my tummy :)

Good luck with the rest of your hospital stay and I am looking forward to hearing how you are doing!!

I will be praying that you do not get the flu like I did. It totally messes up surgery plans. And then on top of that the hospital called to let me know that if I reschedule again I have to pay a 6% fee. That's ridiculous. I couldn't help that I got the flu.
