Vsg and hypothyroidism

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

I have hypothyroid - I take levothyroxin everyday. I'm scheduled for vsg October 5th with Dr Illan. I have of course disclosed this on my medical questionnaire. Does anyone here have thyroid issues and had vsg ? I'm a little concerned about it do please tell me your stories and experiences

Been taking Levothyroxin for over 30years and I had surgery in May...not change or problems whatsoever.

Good question. I'm currently on 150mcg of levothyroxine, and I'm hoping things go smoothly with that. Questions I have:did anyone get their meds adjusted before 6 weeks? That's when I'm supposed to get tested after my surgery (Oct 2nd)

My thyroid was removed awhile back. I will be on meds forever. I am 9 months out and the only thing that has changed is my pill has been reduced in milligrams. Dr may have to test more as weight comes off.

Vicki - thanks so much that's what I needed to hear. How is your weight loss ? Do you feel it might be slower because of the thyroid ?

So interestingly at my 2 week post op visit, they reduced my dose from 150 to 125 baed on my TSH. I do seem to remember the dose going up slowly as my weight went up so although I had not expected to see a difference, perhaps I can go down further as the weight loss progresses. Fingers crossed!

I've read about at least 3 people here who, after they lost weight, were no longer hypothyroid. I'm not yet clear how that happens, but perhaps it's associated with reduced inflammation? I don't know.

I'm only 4 weeks out so I can't speak to speed of weight loss, but of course, in my head, I prepared to be a slow loser because of it :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
