My Dr. Visit Today...?

Today was my six week post op appt. My doc was happy about my progress thus far. I've lost a total of almost 40 lbs since surgery. I was about to leave out when the dietician stopped me and requested a sit down. Basically, she wanted to catch up and make sure I was following the diet plan etc. The part that scared me was the example of play food she showed me of what I should be eating. It was a lot smaller portion wise than what I'm actually consuming. I eat almost double of what she showed me. I limit myself to 800 calories a day which includes 1-2 snacks. The Dr. actually suggested 1200-1400! The NUT told me not to concentrate on calories at all, but to monitor portion size instead and to cut out snacking. I feel like my way has been working pretty well so far and this person just totally kicked my legs from under me!! Do I continue on my merry way or listen to her?

Continue on your merry way. My nut told me to increase my cal to 1200 at 5 months out. Since I have done that I am not losing hardly at all. I was doing just fine at 800-1000 cal. Now am trying to go back to 800-1000 and it is not easy.

I would say listen to her..ive lost 17 lbs in almost 2 weeks to optimize weight lost...its always good to keep your body guessing..mine said to never have the same amount of calories everyday..you burn faster that way..

My surgeon said I will probably reach 1200 at a year plus. .cause the first few months is when you lose the most weight cause your calories are so low..

How far out are you? Give me more info on your caloric intake. Do you fluctuate? I'd love to hear how you lost 17 lbs in two weeks!

I just got sleeved maybe that is why..but most people the talked to try n stay under 800 tge first yr..im not getting enough calories right now on a good day I get 150..I just started puree..

Alot of the girls I talk to say to break a shalk they got back to a all liquid diet every other day..maybe you could try that

Stay on your merry way..... I never had a chance to sit down and talk to my nutritionist because you have to make an appointment then go downtown to her office.... however, My surgeon said one really important thing to me that I have been sticking by and it has been working really good for me.. he said that you should never know how much you are really eating... he said you should eat 3 meals a day no snacks and eat until you begin to feel full then stop...... wait one hour then drink water..... stop water 1 hour before eating your next meal....

It has been helping me because this diet is also a lifestyle change.. and we can't eat like "zombies" constantly counting this and that... just eat 3 modest high protein meals with veggies a day and stop when you feel full ... and if you need snacks just make them protein snacks. Always remember Protein first and you won' t fail......

by the way .. that is the only advise he ever gave me.. he spent the rest of his time talking me into getting RNY instead of Sleeve...

Good Luck to you....
