I am now close to two months out. I get to a point where I'm comfortable...no grumbling, no gas, no pain...then, for some reason, I feel like I need to eat something else and it takes me right over the edge then...pain and sometimes vomiting. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Yep. The only difference is that I have yet to puke. I'm almost 4 months out and I hate when I try to push it and I don't know why I do that! I end up feeling sick and have to lay down for a hour. It seems to happen at dinner for me and I'm wondering if its because I'm eating with my husband. Breakfast and lunch I'm alone.

Yep, I've had it a couple of times, no real vomiting, only the extra mouthful or two backing up. Here's how I see it for me. I had 85% of my stomach cut out, but my brain and my eyes are the same. Looking at two ounces seems too small, and my brain says it's way too small, so I tend to go too fast, or to far, and oops. So, I think we have to retrain ourselves and pay attention to he signs...My full feeling isn't the same as it was when my stomach was intact. Now, it's a nudge at my breastbone, and if I eat after that, it's a backup. But everything gives me gas, so I chew a Cherry Gas-X chewable before the start of the meal. That helps a lot.

Same here...it always happens at dinner. I'm with the family then where I'm generally alone for other meals. Makes me so mad at myself! But Mickeydies is right, we didn't get surgery on our brain and eyes. It's so frustrating because I know what's gonna happen and I know it's not gonna feel good at all! UGH! You guys must be way better off than me if you are not actually vomiting...that's good!

I agree with all these posts. It's important for us to eat slowly and pay attention to our body signals. As soon as I feel slight discomfort, I stop and wait. It's so frustrating because like previously mentioned, our eyes and brains are saying we could eat this and more before surgery. So we think we still can. In the beginning I would continue to order from the adult menu at restaurants or my own meal. Big mistake because I wanted to finish what was on my plate. Now I order from the child's menu or share with someone else. It has helped so much with the mind and eye tricks

I have already starting ordering appetizers or just getting a box off the bat since a full meal ends up being 2 additional lunches for me. And the eating slowly... If anyone ever asked me what was hardest about this surgery...THAT is it. How many calories are you guys taking in a day?

Yep, into the kiddie meals, and still saving half or more of it. Now, when my husband and I go out, we share a meal. We order an empty plate and I take what I can eat, he has the rest. Works for us, and sometimes at some restaurants the portions are so large we can still doggy bag. Amazing now how much some people eat...oh wait, I was once one of them.

Eating slowly was hard for me too. I am learning to savor the flavor in my mouth before I start chewing, and chewing, and chewing.

Yeah, I am eating between 600-800 a day, and averaging 4 lbs. a week.

I find if I pay attention to chewing every bite as thoroughly as possible that I am able to eat slightly more (maybe not a good thing) but this also slows me down. It is much harder to pay attention to your food and your body's sensations when there is a lot of distraction going on. I've had the sliming thing happen a couple of times and it's really gross and disgusting. I hope you can find a way to listen to your full signal and just put a napkin over the food so you don't have to see it. It is really hard when it's sitting there calling your name!

I tend to eat about 1000 cals a day.

pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4

I'm 10 weeks post-op and had a couple of sliming issues, always because I ate to fast. I cant let myself get to hungry, that's when I eat to fast. I need to eat something every two or three hours. I'm around a thousand calories a day.
