So Full ... Is this Normal?

Recommended Posts

My surgery was April 15th. I was on liquids for three weeks per my doctor. Just started purée stage two days ago on Monday. I have been eating very small amounts because with less than an ounce I feel satisfied and I'm afraid to overstuff myself. Well tonight for dinner I puréed some turkey chili with no Beans and served myself 1/4 cup. I was so looking forward to eating it. After eating about half I felt full but had two more bites too many and boy did I feel uncomfortable. Felt pressure in my chest. After about 20 minutes, it subsided. Is this normal? I know my nutritionist said early on it may not be easy to get in even an ounce, but how am I supposed to meet my Protein requirements? I am drinking one Premier shake a day so that helps getting 30g protein in. Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

I think what you felt is normal... that was your tiny tummy saying "I was satisfied 2 bites ago... and I'm letting you know to not ignore me when I tell you I'm satisfied next time...No, I don't care that you still had food on your plate". Ha!

You are learning to eat all over again, and part of that is learning to listen to your stomach, and not your eyes (or brain).

As for getting in Protein, you have to be "creative". Have you tried adding some unflavored Protein powder to your puree's? Have you tried adding Protein Powder to your Water... (I'm preop and trying different ones, and really like the Syntrax nectar Carribbean Cooler flavor).

It's all a learning process...

Your feeling is sooooo Normal. My first 2 weeks post op I had a lack of appetite. And now your new stomach is a slightly swallone. So your going to have these dull feeling after 2 bites...in the beginning I didn't want food. I had to remember I had to eat. As long as your getting your Protein Shakes in, your good to go. In about 2 weeks or so you will eat alittle more. And I had the same problem with looking forward to eat something but after a couple bites u can't finish. Thats your old self getting upset, not the new you!

Thanks everyone for replying. I'm happy to hear that this is normal. Can anyone recommend an unflavored Protein that really has no flavor to it? I've bought a couple and they definitely had a taste to them that was hard to mask in food. Thanks again!!

I use the unflavored powder from GNC and i use it in most of my Soups and cream of wheat. I couldn't tell it was there. I even put some in cheese Soup to put over mashed potatoes when I went to soft foods...it was yummm!

I second the GNC one... http://www.gnc.com/p...3593187.2108294

They also have a bigger tub...but I'd get the bag to make sure you like it first.

Just remember not to add it to anything over 140 degrees or it will clump up.... (that goes for all Protein powders)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
