Hey everyone. Im still pre op but im trying to plan. Having surgery march 12 in mexico. I know they say no lifting over 10 lbs for like 6 weeks. Well I have 10 month old twins and a 2 yr old. Surgery or not, they have to get out of bed, have baths, get fed, get changed, put back to bed...see where im going? I don't rly have to pick up the toddler, she can do most of the work herself. But the twins...they weigh about 23 lbs (give or take). I will have help when my husband is home, and I do have a babysitter that comes a few days a week to help me out. I will have family helping when they can, but let's be honest. There wont ALWAYS be someone here to help for those whole 6 weeks. Do y'all think its going to be ok if I have to pick up the babies shortly after surgery? It'll kind of HAVE to be ok, they have to be taken care of lol...I just kind of wanted to see if anyone else had the surgery and had babies to go home to and take care of, and if it was un-eventful?

Wow, 10 month old twins and a two year old. I thought I had it hard, LOL.

I had my sleeve in November. My kiddos were 1, 2, and 4. Both the babies still in diapers. I was able to do evrything with no problem. However; I had to start changing them on the couch, as opposed to lifting them onto the changing table, because I made my incision bleed the second week from all the lifting. Once I did that, there were no problems. Also, I really had no one to rely on, so when you do have help, use it wisely. Have them lift the kids in the bath for you, or anything else that you find trying. This will ease your soreness and help you recover more quickly. Best of luck to you. You will do great!

I would ask your surgeon--you definitely don't want to pull out your stiches. Maybe a abdominal binder would give you some added support?

My son is 8mths now and almost 30lbs (will be almost a yr old when I have my surgery) and am a SAHM. I personally planned to have my mom and brother come out to visit when I have the surgery to have complete help for that first week. You may consider having your SO lift them out of their cribs (or wherever they sleep) and then move them to the living room floor for the day. This way you can lay on the couch and be able to do all diaper changes and naps on the floor during the day. Then have bath time wait for when someone is able to be there to help you lift them in and out of the tub. I would say do as little lifting for at leas the first few weeks as possible.

Did the dr actually tell you nothing over 10 lbs for 6 weeks, the reason I ask is my weight limitation was 20 pounds for 2 weeks, and then I was cleared to go back to work as a paramedic after 3 weeks believe me when we lift it is much more then 23 pounds. So you might want to verify what your dr has the limitations set at.

Richard I will def ask and see what he says. I was just going by what others have said about their requirements. I know, we're all different lol thanks everyone!

I'm scheduled March 29th and am a SAHM of 4 boys, 1,2,5&7 with the littlest two in diapers. I'm doing the surgery in Mexico and am lucky that they will keep me there 4 nights (fly out Friday w same day surgery, fly back Tuesday). As opposed to being discharged the next day for surgery here. It's a good thing, because my partner can only take off work those days. I haven't let anyone know about the surgery, and we don't have any family here anyways. But I was able to arrange a gal to come for all day the first day I'm home (post op day 5) and then I'm on my own. Planning on making up a week's worth of meals in advance.

Basically, I'm really nervous about the recovery with kids, too. I think the abdominal binder is a good idea.

I have 3 kids and my youngest was barely a year when I had the surgery. She's small and weighed about 17 pounds and I started picking her up when I was about 5 days post op. My surgeon didn't talk to me about not lifting and told me to listen to my body and I didn't have any pain carrying her. I didn't walk around with her a lot but I did pick her up and hold her often. My older kids I didn't pick up though because they weigh about 45 pounds. My husband is in the Army and left to go to school when I was 2 weeks post op and I didn't have any help but being a Army wife for 9+ years you tend to get used to doing it alone. I'm not one for planning and I much rather wing it as I go along, that's just my personality
