My journey for getting this surgery has been about a year. From finally deciding to do this to getting my primary insurance turned down after a ridiculous loop hole, to getting a secondary insurance that actually covered it, too all the pre-operative surgical testings and now I am one day post-op. one thing I will say is I'm under a lot more pain then I had anticipated, maybe I was ignoring the fact it was going to be painful so that I wouldn't freak out the day of my surgery but the gas pain is a lot more sharp and intense than I could've imagined. I'm hoping the pain will die down as everyone else has explained because I have been so excited about this surgery and now I can't help but feel I've made a mistake, I could totally be over reacting but I am also really afraid of vomiting even though I have not...yet. Like I said, most likely I'm just over reacting anyone that's a few weeks or days in that can give me some kind of peace of mind?

I'm ten months but I remember the recovery for me and it was rough but got better day by day.

It takes a bit... You just had a major organ cut In half and stapled. Rest and walk and sip water.

It will be worth it!

I'm three months... And yes your right the first couple of days I think a lot of us were asking "what the hell did I do!"

Give it a week and walk at least 10 minutes every hour! Even if you don't want to.

It will get better I promise

I completely agree the gas and bloating was the worse!!! I too was very nauseous and unfortunately I did vomit several times - not fun! Stay in front of it and take your nausea medicine regularly until you no longer need it.

I'd suggest getting up and moving as much as possible to help move the gas out. I have to be honest, I was never more excited to pass gas than a few days post-op! Also, be sure to burp when it comes up. Its amazing how accustomed us women are to holding in gas - it can be hard to stop forcing yourself to keep in and let it. Once I passed it all it was a huge relief to my pain level.

I truly believe that moving has helped move all the gas out. I am officially 9 days out and am walking nearly 2 miles a day. My recovery is going very well and I'm sure it's because I'm moving so much.

P.S. buyers remorse is very natural. Just keep reminding yourself why you did it and push forward. You are in control of your destiny and this very well may be one of the best things you have done for yourself!!!

I am 2 days post op and walking is my friend! I got up to my room and 2 hours later began walking. I walked every hour and by evening I was walking 1/2 mile each time. I did get up twice through the night and walk 1/2 mile each. While walking I also did some arm raises to move the gas since I started getting shoulder pain. I found that raising both arms at same time ( kind of like a jumping jack) allowed the gas to move easier. I continued walking yesterday and did 2 & 1/2 miles before coming home. I am not taking pain meds and not doing bad. Planning on continuing walking. The gas pain is the worst part so far and I think if I can keep it moving I will be fine.

I agree with all the posts. The gas and nausea is the worst but doesn't last too long. You learn to burp like a man! (Sorry guys). ???? It does get better very quick. And I cried the first night because I realized I let some dude take out most of my healthy stomach! I bawled for about 15 minutes then I was fine! Haven't cried since and I'm 17 days post op and 30 lbs lighter. I'm thrilled and I feel better then ever. Absolutely no regrets at all! Keep on this forum too! It's a great support system. My surgery was a little different because my lower part of my stomach had scar tissue from Endometriosis. So I had twice the reasons to have VSG. My roommate in the hospital had a frank conversation the day after surgery and both admitted we had the " what the heck did we do to ourselves" thoughts. It does get better every day. I was very weak and did not walk miles but did as much walking as I could manage. It will get better. Hang in there! And congrats on your new tummy that will start a whole new wonderful life for you:)

I'm 9 days post-op. I did not find the surgery painful. Sure there was soreness where the instruments were inserted but having had surgery before this surgery was no big deal. I have several co-workers who have recently had the surgery and also found that it was not painful. It's not comfortable but hey don't go into it expecting it to be. I walked twice the first night. Sip, sip, sip. I did get nauseated a couple of times but never threw up.

Gas was uncomfortable but it passes. Know you went into this surgery for all of the right reasons, be compliant with your doctors orders. Relax and just be relieved that the surgery is over.

Thanks guys, I'm feeling a lot better this morning, I woke up every hour and walked back and forth in my house to move the gas around and finally crushed up some percocets so I can get some sort of pain killers in my system. I don't have a scale but I already see the weight loss in my face which is getting me excited all over again

Wait!! You had this as an outpatient?? Didn't you stay in the hospital? Ask doctor for Lortab if you can take Vicodan. It's the liquid form. It worked for me but I suppose it doesn't work for everyone. I didn't have a lot of pain though. Take care!
