Dollars to Pesos?

I was under the impression that there was no need to exchange currency for TJ. As American dollars were accepted most everywhere there. But there was a recent post that said I needed to exchange for other expenses (tips, purchases, ect). Can anyone who has been there please advise?

I've read much of the same. The most common rule ppl stress is have a lot if singles as opposed to large bills.
