That I pushed it off for 3 months. I was self-pay so no waiting period. I just selfishly wanted to wait until after my vacation to an all-inclusive in Mexico so I could gorge myself for a week. Yeah, the food and booze was good, but I sat there like a lump the whole time because I was too big and tired to do anything physical. Well, I take that back. We climbed Coba and I thought I was going to die. 300lbs gets really heavy after climbing a few steps.

Anyway, I had this idea in my head that my post-sleeve life was going to be this sad miserable existence where I could never enjoy food again. On the contrary, I've had an amazingly easy recovery and I truly have a sleeve of steel. No nausea, no vomiting, no sliming, no nothing. I can eat pretty much whatever I want, and I'm only 6-ish weeks out. Of course, I keep it healthy nowadays - but I still go out to lunch with my hubby and enjoy delicious food. I still have fun at parties. I still would have had fun in Mexico if I went post-sleeve. I probably would have enjoyed it even more since I would have lost a fair amount of weight by that point.

That's really my only regret. It's hard to regret anything else when I finally FINALLY have a healthy relationship with food. I don't lust for it or depend on it anymore. It's wonderful. Watching the scale move downward and feeling my clothes get looser also makes it hard to regret anything!

I should have been sleeved earlier! Other than that, I have no regrets whatsoever.

6 months out and no regrets. I also have a pretty strong sleeve. Protein Shakes (certain brands) bother me, but I can eat anything I want. Just in much much smaller quantities. I keep it healthy, get my Protein in first. I'm down 75+ pounds and loving my sleeve!

Not doing it sooner.. 3 months out and 50 lbs down since surgery. :) i've had a smooth recovery. My sleeve doesn't like grease, spicy, and beef, banana, anything citrus.. other than that i can tolerate it. This procedure has been the greatest blessing for me :)

Thinking of being sleeved...what was your biggest regret after surgery?

Just like others, not doing it sooner. Why did I wait so long and give years of my life away being fat! Hugs, Suzanne

I don't really have any major regrets. I'm happy. The only thing I wished I had done is take measurements. I totally forgot.

I hate being this person, but I regret having it done at all. I'm a leak survivor. The pain I'm still in from that and my original surgery on 11-19-12 isn't worth it. I'm only down 30lbs. Not worth it. Seeing my family watch me almost die and give up their lives to stay by my side for the month I was in the hospital, not worth it.

It's a major surgery and while this site is great and helped/still helps me TREMENDOUSLY....I have to be honest with you. Think seriously. I was wry low risk, my surgery went fine, I ate perfectly and my surgeon didn't make a mistake. I was just that statistic, and you could be too. Good luck!

I wondered how you were doing! Are you ok now? Out of the hospital?

Weird pain every now and then, started struggling with a fever, but I'm home :) I lost soooooo much strength in the hospital it's taking a long time getting back to real life lol

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
