Hello All. First time posting and new member. I'm going through the 'process' of visiting the other doctors before my surgery date is scheduled, but I had a question.

I'm a guy and I was wondering if other guys who have the band could reply as to whether or not they had a catheter during the band procedure. Dont ask me why, but I can handle almost anything but the thought of a catheter. :)

Thanks!

im a girl and where i had my surgery they didn't require a catherer, because its only an 1 hr procedure i think your best bet would to ask your Dr.he might be able to tell you if he requires it.:)

the only catheter during banding that i have heard of was my friend (female) who was having her gallbladder removed at the same time.

I know there are a couple who needed one, but for the most no, and I didn't need one either and I know personally of 8 people and none of us had one. Probably not unless you have trouble peeing after surgery. I had no trouble at all. Good luck.

I was told that as long as I went before surgery I wouldn't need one. I made sure to hold it until the nurse was there to see me go so I didn't need one. I was told that if I needed one it would be started after I was out. ~Mandy

How would you know if you had once if it was put in while you were out and taken out while you are still out? I had surgery before with a cath and its no big deal at all. I always thought that caths were required for all surgery.

I would know because a cath always means a UTI for me. I have had 4 caths and each one ended up with a bad UTI. That and I asked. I think it would be in pretty bad medical practice to lie about something like that. ~Mandy

I asked Dr. Sanchez while in holding for surgery. I told him I had heard everyone has one for surgery you just don't know it or just not told it and he said no, I would not have one and I didn't. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
