Pre Op Diet Started Today

Hi all!

My surgery is scheduled for November 12th so today I have started the 2 week pre op. The directions I was given was to have 2 high protein low carb shakes and an evening meal that consists of a high protein food choice (4 to 6 oz) or

3 high protein meals (4 to 6 oz servings protein) per day. I can have 1/2 to 1 cup of non starchy vegetables with the protein too.

So I have already figured out that I will have the shake for am and lunch, and tonight for dinner will be a salad with a boneless skinless chicken breast but I need some other ideas?!?! I am not a good cook or creative! haha Please if anyone knows some good dinners that fit the bill I am all ears! And did anyone else get this same diet plan? What did you eat? Thanks!

I put some chicken breasts in the crockpot with a jar of organic salsa. Let it cook down to where it shreds. My kids eat it with whole wheat tortillas and shredded cheese. I eat it just as the shredded meat with a teaspoon of Greek yogurt instead of sour cream!

Easy and yummy!

ooh that sounds good!!! Too late in the day for me to start it though...maybe I can just throw a breast in the oven with salsa on it for awhile? Whatcha think?

I also started my pre-op diet today with the same surgery date as you (November 12th). My diet is different though, I am only allowed protein shakes with a veggie or a fruit. Nothing else. Hopefully the two weeks will go by fast!

I have been at this pre-op diet for almost 1 week. I am finding it not too hard --- have had some headaches. I am sticking in protein, veggies and fruit. I purchased the GNC 100% whey protein shakes but am not looking forward to drinking the. Anyone tried them?? I also have started to get a bit nervous about the surgery (11/7). I know I can do this and it is for the better -- but my nerves have started to set in.

I bought the same protein. I personally like it I add half scoop of the Chocolate Carmel and half scoop of vanilla and some of the hazelnut coffee Togo packets with 1/2 skim milk and half water and it isn't too bad.. I'm on day two of Pre op diet and I have the worst headache ever!!! Any tips ?

For the headaches I have taken motrin but that will stop as of tomorrow as I can't take anything 1 week before surgery. Drink lots of fluid!!

I wanted to get the powders but none came in 25 grams protein with 6 grams of carb (technically I am not supposed to go over 5 carbs on my shake). I love how you mixed them..never even thought of that! Surprisingly, I don't have any headaches. I've gotten down to one big cup of coffee (down from 3) and 1 caffeine free soda...my second week I plan on having neither. I do however need advil for alot of back pain. I am going to DREAD giving that up next week!

Def nervous! But once it's done we will all be miserable for a couple of weeks probably and then start feeling way better! That's what I'm thinking in my head anyways... I was afraid to buy the whey protein just cuz of the name! haha Let me know once you tried them!

Oh and duh...just realized you bought the other protein..for some reason I thought you bought the kind I did. I may have to try them then if they taste decent.

Well I will let you know how they taste -- I got my blender all set up for tomorrow morning. We shall see. I am having terrible hip pain and also not looking forward to giving up the motrin. I know I will be much happier in a few weeks. I was feeling fine until this weekend. I guess since I am getting closer to the 7th the nerves have started to set in and we had that horrible Hurricane Sandy arrive and have not been out of the house since Saturday. Back to work tomorrow so I won't have too much time to be thinking about the nerves.

For the shakes they also recommended that I could add 1/2 frozen banana.

Went to GNC tonight and picked up the following.....

Pure Protein: Frosty Chocolate

Lean Body: Chocolate Ice Cream

IsoPure: Alpine Punch

Going to chill and try them tomorrow, I hope I love one of them!!

Hate to tell you, but it didn't earn the nickname "IsoPUKE" for nuthin' ;). I bought a case for when I was on Clear liquids post-op and 7 of them are unopened, sitting on my kitchen counter...
