Grrrr Stupid Jeans

Recommended Posts

So I had surgery on June 6th of this year and I have lost 70 pounds so far. 70 pounds, yay!

No.

NOT yay.

When I think of 70 pounds lost, I think of total body transformation. Even though I havn't seen much of a difference, my family (including my mom who had the same surgery a month later) says they can definitely see some change. With the exception of a FEW loose fitting sweats, my clothes have all been fitting pretty much the same as before surgery. I've been chalking it up to the fact that I really only wear yoga pants/leggings/sweats etc, so those stretch or shrink to your body even if your weight fluctuates.

Tonight I found the jeans that I wore a lot before surgery. I got so excited because I just KNEW that there was no way those babies were gonna stay up when I tried them on. THEY STAYED UP JUST FINE. They fit like a normal pair of pants. NOOOO! I was so pissed all day because of it.

Because Im such a high weight (was 383, now 313), I know 70 pounds lost wont look as drastic as 70 pounds off of someone who was starting at 200 pounds, but come on. This is nuts.

Well I don't wear yoga pants all the time and at the end of the summer, when I was down 95 lbs, I tried on all of my work clothes that I hadn't worn for 2 1/2 months. (I'm a teacher.) Well, almost all of my clothes still fit. There were a few that were a size larger than I admitted I was. (lol) I could get rid of those but most of my dress pants are still in my closet. I'm down 105 now and while things definitely fit differently and hang a bit, I'm only down maybe 2 sizes. It takes a while... no matter what the clothes say, the scale says you're down 70 freaking pounds FOREVER!

linda

congrats on dropping 70 lbs - that is a great amount

keep up the great work - you'll see the results with clothes your wearing as more weight comes off, - your measurements also will improve, changing how your clothes will fit

keep up the good work

I agree. It took me to about 100 pound loss before I started to really notice. I had a 5x and feel I can still wear it and look fine but I also can wear some 2xs

I'm still able to wear some pants that I wore before surgery and while they are a bit loose now, I have to admit that they were pretty tight before...as in I was probably wearing pants that were 1 to 2 sizes too small. So looking at the whole picture, I'm actually down about three sizes. And that's definitely a celebration! Any correlation to your jeans? Congratulations on 70 lbs lost!

You have to remember that clothing is made based on measurements, not weight. I'm sure you have friends that visually look a certain size and then when you find out what size they wear, you're surprised.

Those are actually all really good points that I didn't think of before, especially the one about my jeans probably being tight before surgery. The majority of my clothes, pants especially, were too snug, so I got used to that being my "normal" fit for clothes. At least I get to put off spending more money on new clothes for a while! Thanks so much again for the words of wisdom and positive thoughts!

Lol, hay congratulations! It will take time but you have your whole life ahead of you to tell those jeans to F-off!!! Lol ((((hugs))))

I experienced, and I've read on here before as well, that I drop sizes quicker as I get smaller. I could wear a size 20 jeans even after a 40 pound loss. I can't do that with smaller sizes. I have heard there is only 10 pounds between sizes smaller than 10. I'm not there yet.

I have been wearing size 12 since I was 190, but I couldn't wear all 12s and some were tight. Now my 12s are loose, and I can wear all 12s. I'm at 180.

Interesting.

I am losing weight (as per the scale) very slowly, BUT have lost lots of inches, and clothes...especially pants, are hanging off me. WTH?! So it seems like a case of "six of one, half dozen of the other"!

So I know some of this has already been said - but I feel similarly. I'm not down nearly as much as you are, but as far as what I have been able to figure out/decided about it:

- The larger you are, the less difference you will be able to see/feel with losses until you are at a much lower weight.

- Larger sizes have more room between sizes.

- You may have been squeezing into the size you're wearing pre-surgery. So maybe they're fitting much better and you never noticed

- You live with yourself every day - it's hard to see a difference when yous ee yourself every day

- You may still be losing inches - measure?

- Do you take pictures for progress? Maybe side by side you will see it

- Have you lost from weird places? I always seem to lose weight from my bust first...I think all my 40 pounds have come from them lol

It's frustrating, but there is a difference - and maybe some of it came from around your organs, which is actually even better for your health. Hang in there =)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
