I was told it would be best if i get the sleeve because of my bmi being 55. Im scared str8. I have had surgeries in the past (not pertaining to wls) but im scared of the possible side effects that may happen.

It is understandable to be scared but look at the other side of this, you must have some co-morbidities, wouldnt it be great to get rid of most, if not all of those? You have to weight the pros and cons, I can guarantee there are more pros! Best of luck to you!

I had 2 surgeries prior to being sleeved and I was scared out of my mind. I'd never had a major surgery like this one. I found this site and asked some questions and read through some things and realized that everyone has fears and everyone was fine. My BMI was close to 60 when I had the surgery. I don't know if that helps but we are all here to lend you some support and to help ease your fears.

I just had my sleeve on July 16th and it was realitive easy very little pain at all. I'm back to work at 4 weeks, I have had no eating issues, except once I ate too much and up it came not all of it just what couldnt fit in my tummy. I encourage you to do it. It's been 4 weeks and I've lost 27 lbs this includes the 9 lbs I lost before surgery, I can't keep from smiling now.

I was sleeeved Mon. Aug 6 and released Thurs.

I was shock to learn that I was getting off my pre surgey meds,

2 Blood pressure,Cholesterol,Diebetic and a Water pill.

I have been on these for many years. Thats a pro to the surgery

the cons I beleive are each persons. I am stil sore able to drink

fluids.

Welcome, I believe many of us were scared at one time before taking this journey. I for one never had any surgeries never been under anastisia or major medical procedure I was one big scared chicken. Please educate yourself on the process and you will start to feel better about your decision. I know I don't regret it and wish I would have done it in my 30's instead of 45. I am very happy with my decision and would do it again in a heartbeat. Good luck to you.

If you are afraid, that is good. It means that you are wisely weighing the pros and cons with an appropriate amount of seriousness. Too many people are looking at wls as an "easy" way to lose weight. Those of us that have been through it, know that it is not easy. It is a life changing decision.

It will mean sacrifice and some discomfort and changes changes changes.

But isn't that what you rally want? Changes. The surgery means that you have to completely change how you eat and take care of yourself. It also means that your body is going to go through changes - wonderful wonderful changes.

And with the body shape and weight canges come so many positive life changes. Read on this site and you will read about getting to play with children again, picking up grandbabies, riding a bike with a son or daughter, going on a cruise, swimming at a waterpark, wearing a bathing suit in public. Things that never would have happened but for the sleeve. So many of the fun things in life are off limits to the larger folks. That can change.

And go to the "Powder Room" section and just listen to all the naughty girls talking about how great sex is again and the increased labido.... They are so naughty, talking about positions they have not tried since high school, and husbands that can't keep their hands off them.

How can you possibly put a value on that?

So consider it with all seriousness. It is a very serious decision. But temper your fears with a bit of what the future can hold for you - and those you love and that love you...

Any surgery is scary, and I think all of us were scared, even those of us who wanted this really badly! But being obese has a lot of side effects too, right? If you're like most of us, you're already experiencing at least some of them - diabetes, high blood pressure, aching knees and joints, sleep apnea, etc. And carrying that extra weight will go right on being hard on your body, and put you at higher risk for health issues down the road. Weight loss surgery has risks, but so does not losing the weight!

One of the reasons I preferred the sleeve was because I felt it had the least complications and side effects post-op.

If there are particular potential side effects that worry you, perhaps it would help to talk to your surgeon about your concerns and his/her patient history. If you're not already talking to a surgeon, investigate weight loss surgery seminars in your area - most hospitals with a bariatric surgery program seem to offer them. I went to several to get different perspectives, and to get a feel for different surgeons.
