How soon to drive?

How quickly after surgery did you drive? I'm just trying to cover all bases before surgery Tuesday and pre-arrange carpools for my DD's activities.

Thanks!

I *think* the dr wanted me to wait 48 hours before driving... it mostly pertains to the possible reaction to anesthesia.

And I was groggy for approx 3 days afterwards...

so I would find car pooling help for at least 3 days post op. You may need a week, just depends!

Best bet would be to ask your surgeon.

My dr. told me to wait at least ten days. If I was still taking the pain medication after ten days, then I had to wait until after I was off the pain meds. This was the longest 10 days of my life.

I agree with Paula...two days should be sufficient. With the disclaimer about pain meds...everyone reacts differently to those so you'll have to see if you're even taking pain meds and how they make you feel. Ask your doc to be sure what he/she recommends. Physically though...I was able to drive after the second day.

My surgeon had me on a one week restriction from driving. After that, as long as I was off the pain meds, I was free to drive again. That worked out for me fine, because I didn't feel like going anywhere for a week anyways.

I drove 2 days after operation, where I think I shouldn't. Every bump on the road hurt my incisions. I guess it all depends on how you feel
