I = Boring!

So I have found out something about myself, I am SO boring! Since I have taken away smoking, drinking coffee, drinking booze, eating and cooking I HAVE NO LIFE!!! I know it doesn't help that I have been out of work for the past 3 weeks, but I have no hobbies to fill my time. I have also been depressed since the surgery so I am in no mood to create some fun. I can't go to the gym yet because I severely hurt my muscle that they cut threw and I have stabbing pain which exercise makes so much worse. My friends aren't inviting me out because I am "recovering". I am sick of doing nothing except looking at my cats all day. Does anyone have any suggestions of hobbies or activities that a former foodie may enjoy?

I have not had the surgery yet so I cannot relate. I will say though, that I hope things start to change. It's hard to find a new hobby when you can't do much due to recovery. Things may change once your recovery turns to living!! You may find new hobbies that you enjoy (I suggest getting into photography!lol).

I'm giving up all of those things too. What I do to keep busy is look for stuff to make on PINTEREST. I've made lotion bars, bath bombs, laundry soap, crafts etc. It helps me a lot. Good luck to you.

I do a lot of reading and sewing now to keep my hands busy and away from food.

See if there is an in-person support group for bariatric patients in your area that you could join. Time to build a new support system of like-minded people around you to keep you going on this journey.

I like doing that type of stuff, I will check out pinterest! Thank you! And I have always wanted to get into photography, so I will look into that as well. Thank you both for your ideas!

I have looking EVERYWHERE for a support group, it seems that the hospitals here in Boston only do it for their patients OR new patients. My program only has them during work hours... and since I just took a month off from work I am sure they won't be so keen on me leaving for that. I have also looked into just like a put together home group and have had no luck there either... If you or anyone else has any ideas on how to find these groups I would greatly appreciate it!

I would kill to have an in person support group as well. I live in a very remote community of just over 300 people in the Yukon Territory- no support groups here!!

But I am really good at keeping myself busy, so it hasn't been too bad.

Maype as the clinic that did your surgery if you can post a flyer there saying you are looking to meet other individuals in the same boat. Good luck!!

When I go on Pinterest I just peruse the boards I want to see. Don't go to the main board. Just go to the Fitness board, DIY crafts and Hair and Beauty. lol Then you won't be bombarded with all of the crappy food.

Thank you for that suggestion! I didn't even know you could do that. Why do I need an invite to join? Can I do stuff with out being a member?

I think you can just create an account. That is what I did. I know some of my friends had a hard time signing up. If that doesn't work PM your email to me and I will send you an invite.

i started writing a book , it takes me away for about 2 hours a day B)

I just went back to work Thursday, so that has helped. I also have 3 kids that keep me busy. Besides that, I am just getting into pinterest. I do look at the food, but more in recipes that are healthful that I could try after I can start eating again. I am also addicted to facebook! EEK! I also sell Mary Kay, so I have been trying to stay busy with that.

Check with your local community or school district as they have classes on many different things that you might be interesting in learning. I know I have taken a photography class, I got into family ancestry research, and orgainzing my many, many, many photos that I have taken over the years. You might enjoy scrapbooking, knitting, crocheting, stained glass, or any number of things. I too have been out of work since last Nov so I know how long your days can get. I am now 2 months post op and I am starting to make up some creations in the kitchen that are high in protein. Also I did puzzle books and there are many different types that you can do. Just think about something that you have always wanted to do but never had the time.
