I'm way down south in grants pass, getting sleeved in Mexico, June 14th :-)

  • I had Dr. Patterson too and loved her. Had my one month follow up this week. Surgery went great and I had no surgery complication. Probably the easiest surgery I've had.

Woobs- don't sweat the liquid phase, it's really not that bad. After surgery you're not likely to want anything other than liquids anyway. It's hard to describe, you'll just have to see. I didn't get solids until 5 weeks out and it really didn't bother me.

I recommend getting some unflavored protein powder. I used both Syntax Nectar brand and Unjury. I mixed the unflavored stuff into everything: broth, juice, Vitawater, jello, etc.

as far as flavored shakes go I recommend you pick up some samples. I got my samples from Unjury, Nectar and Chike. My tastes didn't change at all after surgery, that may be true for you as well.

I am almost 4 months out and close to 50 lbs down. No complications, pain, issues with tolerating food, etc. this has been a great process for me so far. I feel normal, eating out with friends and at holiday meals. This is all so much better than I expected. I still have 30 lbs to lose but I feel pretty confident that it will happen.

Congrats on taking control of your life! Feel free to contact me anytime with questions or for support, I'm in Portland.

:)

Frza,

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm taking your advice and just going for it. I bought a container of unflavored Unjury and two sample packets each of strawberry and vanilla. I picked unjury because it sounds like it's heating up temperature is higher than nectar (140' vs 90'). Nectar sounds like they have more flavors though...any suggestions of which ones you liked?

I really only used the unflavored Nectar. I have a tub of vanilla made by Body Fortress (it was in sale) and a tub of chocolate by EAS. I'm not too adventurous with the flavors. I mostly like adding plain to other things :)

I would like to try a mint / chocolate flavor at some point, but at 4 months out I only have about 1-2 shakes per week. It's too cold now, I want warm food & beverages. Maybe I'll go back to more shakes in the summer.

I'm getting sleeved at Good Sam In Portland By Dr.Valerie Halpin I hope the end of Jan. 2013 should find out in the next coupple of weeks what my surgery date is..I live accross the bridge in Vancouver Washington

I am from the couve also and getting sleeved in jan.2013 at Good Sam by Dr.Halpin

Hey fellow Oregon sleevers! I would love to start a support/discussion group for 2013. Maybe once a month to start. Anyone interested? I live out in the tanasborne area but willing to meet where ever. You can email me at karenlynn81@gmail.com if interested.

Yeah, I got the unflavored to add to soups etc. I did buy myself a little bottle of sugar free raspberry flavored syrup to add to chocolate or vanilla shakes--just to add a little variety. I'm curious about the nectar fuzzy navel and Caribbean cooler I've read that the apple is awful.

I'm in inner NE (laurelhurst)...had band to sleeve revision on 12/29 at OHSU where i work. Dr Deveney was wonderful. Everyone was great. He told me to expect 2 days in the hospital but I went home the next day.

I was banded at good Sam 6 years ago...my surgeon then is no longer in the practice but I had a lot of follow up with Emma Patterson. She is wonderful and I would have gone back to her but our insurance wouldn't cover it. My experience at OHSU was great, even though I was nervous about having this kind of surgery as staff.

Medicare does anyone know where the web site is to see when Oregon and Washington Medicare is going to start paying for the sleeve its supposed to be decided this month going crazy waiting for my Doctors office to call and say they have passed it I need to look myself
