Yoga

1st yoga class tonight and Ihope that I don’t look like a total fool. This has been a goal of mine for years and now that I have less weight and my joints don’t hurt I thought I’d try it. That being said, I am fearful of being the big woman in the class and the looks and whatnots, I guess I’ll just have to get over it. Thanks for letting me vent. I love this group!

I did my first yoga class Tuesday night. It was hard for me to hold the poses but I felt very relaxed when I left. My instructor helped me with the poses and it was ok. I think I might even go back

OK my peeps I can not wait to try yoga...I was at Sam's club this past week and bought the cutest tie die yoga top and pants lol...what else will I need??

Do I need a mat? Do you wear tennis shoes when you do yoga? or just socks? I wish my new gym was open NOW lol

Bare foot is the best way to do yoga, but socks are okay too :) it seems easier to balance and less slippery if I am barefoot. Most gyms have mats that you can use, at least at the beginning. Once you know that you will continue, or if you are simply grossed out by the provided mats, you can bring you own. Lol! A towel (for sweat and stretching) and a bottle of water... after a couple classes you may find that yoga blocks are helpful (they make it easier to reach the ground, keep you off the ground, etc. At the beginning I just watched what other people were doing and the tools they used and figured out what helped me best. But simply it is me my mat, towel, bottle of water and patience! :) (oh, and yoga pants, or sweats work best. Shorts will ride and be uncomfortable if ya know what I mean!)

Thanks so much for your feedback...OK I saw the mats and blocks at TJ MAXX this weekend yayyy! Not sure what in the heck to do what the blocks lol, but I'm sure I will find out, and I know what you mean about shorts LOL! I think the yoga pants will be just fine LOL

OK so I bought some yoga blocks today because they were only $4.99 at Marshalls and they were black...I'm so funny cuz I haven't even taken a class yet hahahahahahahaha! But I'm ready and I will be prepared LOL!

I SOO want to do yoga but everytime I try I feel lightheaded and dizzy. I have hypotension, always low blood pressure so bending down and blood flowing all over the body makes me wanna lie down and sleep. Hoping I can do yoga because it seems so stress free sad_smile.gif

Yoga poses do not have to be alot of bending over and such. There are many traditional forms of yoga, and there will always be an over abundance of trends.

Do only what you can, do NOT sign an agreement - you should try to experience many classes and many instructors. Do alot of research on the types and what you want out of it. I would suggest avoiding anything that adds heat, or at least for your first classes.

If you hurt - really hurt, you need to slow down. In my experiences many "beginners" classes aren't, and you can injure yourself easily.

I have been doing yoga continuously for over 20 years, so not really an expert, but seasoned...

I am waiting to get to a weight that I can do acro yoga!!!
