issues with drinking liquids

I've just started the puree diet on Friday and I noticed that as I get very thirsty the compulsion to gulp liquid is very much there. I've done it and everytime i am getting an airbubble coming back up my throat and i have to burp to release the pressure. It feels every time like i just drank 2 liters of soda with carbonation.

Will this be permanent? Or will this go away?

I am on week 4 and have been eating Gas X chewables like candy. The first times I ate mushes it was eat a bite burp and repeat. I have noticed just this last week that I have not had to take any. The burps are getting less. Good news! :)

You probably still have a lot of swelling, so go easy with smaller sips. It shouldn't be permanent, everyone is different on when the swelling goes away. Also you need to wait 30-45 mins after you eat before you drink anything. Unless it is just a tiny sip or 2 to wash something down if you feel like you're choking.

is 6 months the usual wait time for the swelling to finally go away?

I have to tell you, every time I swallow I have to burp. Doesn't matter if I'm sipping or taking a larger swallow--haven't really tried to "gulp" yet. But yeah, I think the burping is just here for the duration. Small price to pay, really.
