I am new to the boards and just got my date today - August 17! I am so excited! My surgeon is Dr. Allan Geiss in Syosset, NY. Looking forward to talking to everyone.

I'm nervious, excited, and having just the slightest bit of concern about feeling the port. But overall I can't wait to get healthy!!

I am so excited as I finally approaching the 100's. I am about 8 pounds from Onederland which is my first goal. I hope to be there by September 16th. Keep the strength!!!

Onederland is my first goal too. I will see my best friend 1 month post-op and was hoping to be in Onderland then. Might be a bit aggressive, but everytime I have gone on a diet, I always lose really fast and usually not on purpose. It's the going right back to old habits that is my problem, as well as feeling like I deprived myself on the diet so I need many food rewards. :faint:

I suspect my weight loss will be pretty fast too.

Josette -- I was 3 weeks out on Wednesday and I am noticing that I am hungrier and that I can definitely eat more than I could in the first couple of weeks. I am not losing quickly now either, so I am going to go ahead and get my fill scheduled for the second week in September.

I haven't pushed it on eating too many non-mushy foods, but I have found that foods that are really solids turn mushy with enough chewing.

I did have my first and I hope only or one of very few "almost PB" moments the other day when I ate some peanuts to quickly. They seemed to get stuck and for about 3-5 minutes I was in PAIN! I tried sipping water -- didn't help. I just had to wait for it to get through, which it did. I knew that doing something stupid like that was inevitable for me, so I hope I will continue to be more careful.

To all the August bandsters, y'all are doing great. I am glad I'm here and look forward to the journey.

Hi, I was banded on August 17th in Blackfoot Idaho by Dr. Avila,

He is a great guy and am am starting to feel good again except for some pain at the port sight and a few gas pains. I am now eating yogurt and Slim Fast after my first week of clear liquids. I need to start on a vitamin however as I have been feeling a bit tired from it all. I have my first check up next Wednesday, so I will see how much I have lost since my initial visit to Dr. Avila in May. I was self pay as my insurance would not cover it unless I had a more current attempt at weight loss and I have been there and done that only to gain it back plus more over 10-15 years, so my dear husband said he would pay so that I wouldn't have to continue to fight the insurance for the surgery and could get a date and get it done!

I was banded on 8/4 and I am experiencing the same thing as you are. I don't feel any restriction now, it's almost like I don't have a band and I'm just on a diet. I'm assured that that will change with the first fill. I've also had some painful PB's and once I thought I was going to heave, but painfully, the food worked down.

Hi, I Was Banded On The 21st. I Am On Soft Food Now. I Can't Believe How Blessed I Am Because I Feel Great. I Did Get Sick In The Recovery Room But Since Then Just Tender On My Tummy. I Thought I Would Have A Problem With The Protein But Find That With The Protein Drink And Tuna, That Is 60 Grams. The Only Problem Is Drinking Enough Water. I Was Always A Non Water Person Until Ww. Then I Drank It Out Of A Lg Glass With A Straw And Ice And Lemon. They Say That Ice And Straws Will Give You Gas So I Now Take A Sm Bottle Of Water And Freeze It, Squeeze The Lemon In It And Drink It That Way. It Is 4 Days Post Banding And I Am Back To Work. So Far So Good.

Hey all! For some reason this is the third time I've tried to post and keep getting it wrong!

I can now say I have been officially banded!!! I just got banded 7-8 hours ago by Dr. Ortiz and I am in suprisingly little pain!!! I am up and walking and feel pretty good!!

The only weird things that happened were that I fainted:faint: after I had my blood drawn, and they had to poke me three times before they got my iv in. Other than that I must say so far so GREAT!

I have not had any cola since late July and I don't miss it. I have so much constant energy that I don't need the cola high anymore. I drink ice tea or coffee and I am just fine.

The pre-op diet was hard for me, too. I had alot of last suppers, but I noticed I was having smaller portions. I guess I was preparing myself mentally but I did not give up carbs completely until the last few days before the surgery. It is hard to believe that 3 weeks have passed since my surgery because I remember I thought it would never come. And now after only 3 weeks I put on some slacks tonight that I had not worn in 2 years - and they were too big!!!

Your procedure will be here before you know it and then you will be well on your way to your new life. Our weights and goals are pretty similar so we should keep in touch. I know you are nervous, I was too, that is only natural. I kept saying to myself, "you are going under a general anesthesia and letting someone cut on you, voluntarily?" But I knew this was the only answer to what I have struggled with for a lifetime. You have already survived so much in your life that you have a well of strength to get through this. I put my faith in Dr. Spivak and allowed this tool to help me toward my goal. You are going to do fine, and positive changes in your life are just around the corner.

Wow I can't believe it is getting close to my day. I am a cancer survivor and my Dr. wouldn't operate until he received a letter from my oncologist at MD Anderson. Well, if any of you out there have ever experienced MD Anderson, then you know how hard it is to get anything from them if you don't have a scheduled appointment. I was beginning to get stressed because I didnt want my day to be pushed out. However, my oncologist's nurse called me at 8pm last night. She had stayed late to make sure I got my letter. I thought that was so nice of her. That means that it is REALLY REALLY gonna happen. :nervous

I am seriously having last supper syndrome. I tried a self induced liquid diet for the this last week and I have absolutely no willpower. It is very easy to follow my Dr.'s pre-op instructions.... no carbs.... I have been doing that off and on for years. Just on cutting caffeine and carbs, I can only eat half of a portion of what I was eating a month ago. And if I feel full I stop, I have never ever done that before ever, much less been aware of the feeling.

I took one sip of a Diet Dr. Pepper today and gagged because it was so sweet. I am also very addicted to Crystal Light lemonade, which is way better than 3 to 4 sodas a day.

I'm rambling... I'll stop now. LOL. I'm just nervous :nervous

Caroline -- thanks for making me feel "normal". I am really trying not to give in to my old habits while I wait for the fill. I am not perfect, but I am doing fairly well. It's okay with me if the weight loss slows or stalls for a few weeks as long as I don't gain! I am going to go ahead and schedule a fill in September. I remind myself to take this one day at a time and that it is a new way of life, not a temporary change in eating habits.

Robin -- you continue to amaze me with your great attitude and strength. You are an inspiration to me! Now, if I can get my butt doing some exercise, I would be following your example.

Wow August is almost over and we've come so far!

That list is very impressive.

I too don't feel the surgery swelling restriction like I did a week ago. And if I didn't have these tiny red marks I would feel like I was never banded. I am out of mushies and into solid foods but still very much "chew till goo".

I certainly don't eat as much as I used to but now it is a whole cup or a cup and 1/2 instead of a 1/2 cup of food LOL!

I think next week I am going to put some of that anti scarring cream on the incisions. I swear, except for the port incision which is longer it just looks like the cat scratched m on my tummy.

May I tell any August bandsters that are getting banded next week-I was scared and very nervous. But it all worked out. And it will for you too.

Feel free to PM me in more detail if you're up to it. I'm getting more nervous but also more excited as the day approaches. I feel like the more I know the more I know what to expect. Did you do your pre-op and your surgery in one day? That's what I'm doing. People pass out after having blood drawn all the time. The last time I had blood work, two people fainted while I was there. I asked the nurse if it happend a lot and she said "oh yeah, like at least twice a day". Although that place just does bloodwork.

Anyway, I'm so happy for you and glad you're feeling good. What about Chrissie -- wasn't she an Ortiz bandster?

Hello all you August bandsters. Congratulations to everyone you all seem to be doing very well.:clap2: I am so excited tomorrow I go to my Dr for a follow up I havent been since my 5 day post op and at that point I had lost 10.5lbs since surgery day. So I am excited to see how much since then since its been 2 weeks since that visit. I also think I can have some kind of food tomorrow up until now Im on water and protein drinks only, I have snuck in a little broth too:) But am definitely excited to possibly have something solid :hungry: even if it is only yogurt or mashed potatoes. Well again to everyone Good Luck and keep up the good work.

I was banded 3 weeks ago tomorrow and am basically back to normal, except for these small marks on my tummy and some port pain. I wasn't expecting so much pain around my port.

I'm still on pureed foods, and I'm basically following directions except for a few small lapses, which had no untoward consequences. I don't feel any restriction, except I'm eating a small fraction of what I used to eat. Last night, DH and I went to a Mexican restaurant, and he had a normal meal. I ate half the refried beans that came with my dinner, and a few bites of taco meat with some mild salsa. (No Margarita!) Tasted great, but I got full with 80% of my meal left on my plate. The server asked if anything was wrong! So I took it home and will have it for lunch and dinner today.

I think I was getting short on protein, and it made a big difference when I started focusing more on that. My energy level is back to normal. AND -- my feet don't hurt, my knees don't hurt, my bra hooks in a tighter hook, no more heartburn. Life is good!

I've lost 22 pounds, which is not quite 10% of my starting weight. It made a much bigger difference than I thought it would. Nobody has yet noticed the weight loss, so hopefully that'll start soon.

I've asked DH to nag me about walking. I need to overcome my negative association with exercise, and establish a new habit of being more active. He's a natural nag, and instead of fighting that (which doesn't work, anyway), I'm going to use it to help me do what I really do want to do.

So all in all, the band has been a good thing to do. I'm looking forward to my first fill in mid-September. The doctor says it's realistic to expect to get to 150 pounds in a year plus, a loss of about 100 lbs. That would put me back to where I was after my second pregnancy at age 36, when I could still wear a size 8 dress. I'd be ecstatic with that.

I'm frusterated!!! I was down 13 pounds and feeling pretty good. But this morning I weighed myself and I gained a pound!!! My husband said not to panic because I might be retaining some water or something, not a big deal. But honestly, I never want to see the scale go in that direction ever again. I've been watching myself but I did find out that what I was using as a protein drink was too high in calories...(for the record, don't drink Ensure High Protein, it has 230 calories!!!) My doctor said Carnation Instant Breakfast is the best, (no sugar added)

I'm not feeling any restriction at all right now, thank god I'm getting my first fill on Friday. I've been pretty much limited to Instant Breakfast for breakfast, 1/2 cup of cottage cheese for lunch, and soup for dinner (and 1 or 2 bites of hubby's protein if it's soft. Then water, crystal light, and juice to drink.

My treadmill should be coming this week to I can start exercising. Maybe that will help.
