August Band Crew!!!!!

I am new to the boards and just got my date today - August 17! I am so excited! My surgeon is Dr. Allan Geiss in Syosset, NY. Looking forward to talking to everyone.

I'm nervious, excited, and having just the slightest bit of concern about feeling the port. But overall I can't wait to get healthy!!

If your surgery is in August too, come on in!

pbrown, part of it is probably your diet, but part is just the simple fact you had surgery only a little over a week ago! It takes a while for the anesthesia to work its way out of your system, which can cause fatigue for a few weeks after surgery. I was banded on the 15th and still feel weak sometimes, like when blowdrying my hair too. Just take it easy for the next few days, no matter how good you feel, you're still healing! As for the headaches, did you stop caffeine when you had the surgery? If so, could be withdrawl from that.

Hope you start feeling better soon.

seabreeze,

Ive never heard of the post-op depression, what is it caused by?? I think I may have had the start of it yesterday, everything seemed to make me cry! But today now that I'm feeling better I don't feel as emotional....

Faybie - very cool list, thanks!

I feel official now, I went in and paid yesterday. I'm a little bummed that my time was moved from 7:30 to 1:30, I wanted to get in early and get it over with. Oh well, I'll just try to sleep in as late as I can.

Faybie. You're awesome!!!! Thanks for that list. it looks great!

Jamie.. I was warned before surgery that there could be some post op depression which is a side effect of the anestsia (sp). I felt it off and on but just kept myself in a light happy mood. hahaha

If the hubby ticked me off I noticed it!

Wow I can't believe it is getting close to my day. I am a cancer survivor and my Dr. wouldn't operate until he received a letter from my oncologist at MD Anderson. Well, if any of you out there have ever experienced MD Anderson, then you know how hard it is to get anything from them if you don't have a scheduled appointment. I was beginning to get stressed because I didnt want my day to be pushed out. However, my oncologist's nurse called me at 8pm last night. She had stayed late to make sure I got my letter. I thought that was so nice of her. That means that it is REALLY REALLY gonna happen. :nervous

I am seriously having last supper syndrome. I tried a self induced liquid diet for the this last week and I have absolutely no willpower. It is very easy to follow my Dr.'s pre-op instructions.... no carbs.... I have been doing that off and on for years. Just on cutting caffeine and carbs, I can only eat half of a portion of what I was eating a month ago. And if I feel full I stop, I have never ever done that before ever, much less been aware of the feeling.

I took one sip of a Diet Dr. Pepper today and gagged because it was so sweet. I am also very addicted to Crystal Light lemonade, which is way better than 3 to 4 sodas a day.

I'm rambling... I'll stop now. LOL. I'm just nervous :nervous

Great list, thanks! It's nice to see everyone listed out like that. :D

Good luck to all of next week's banders! :) The month is almost over, which means the end of the wait (or is it weight? :D ) is near for all of you! :D

Bug, do you live in or near Crystal Lake? Back in August 2000 my friend Eva and her three kids were killed by a drunk driver in Crystal Lake. I think of her everytime I see Crystal Lake on your signature.

Faybie - A cancer survivor! WOW! There is nothing you can't do now!! YOU ROCK!! Thanks for the great list of August bandsters.

Okay, Pre-op schme-op . . . I did great for uh . . . ONE day! Yesterday, I ended up eating a bagel, a brownie and fruit in addition to my 2 shakes. On the up side, I have lost 3 lbs. of the 10 I needed to lose . . but, I only have 6 days to lose the remaining 7 lbs. I am a lower BMI (35) and hope Dr. Ortiz' office won't turn me away if I don't lose the full 10 lbs. I am back on track today and have stocked up on Slimfast Low Carb shakes. I am also going to add a couple of salads w/balsamic vinegar to my diet (allowed by my doctor).

To those who have been banded - GREAT JOB!!

To those of us who have yet to be banded - GOOD LUCK!!!

Michelle

he he Serendipity, I could never forget you! You were on the original list, so I must have accidentally deleted you when I was cleaning up all of the spaces after I cut and pasted. All fixed!

Faybie-Great job on the List!

Well, I'm 5 days out and have to say that today it is starting to get better. Still not sleeping really well because of the port pain and stomach soreness. I had a terrible reaction to the anesthesia so I'm very weary of taking the pain meds. I have to say though that I still want to eat and I'm depressed because I can't but I know that this liquid phase will be over soon.

Oh, I definitely felt depressed the afternoon of surgery for aboout 4-5 hours. I thought I was going nuts. I thought it was because of how uncomfortable I felt - feeling 5 months pregnant, sore, mid-backache, belching, gassy, etc. I thought, "What have I gotten myself into" Am I going to feel like this for days?" But then the depression passed off around early evening and I was back to normal. It was the anesthesia???

I am so excited as I finally approaching the 100's. I am about 8 pounds from Onederland which is my first goal. I hope to be there by September 16th. Keep the strength!!!

I just wanted to drop a line and say hello to everyone. I am pretty much 100% better and eating pureed foods. I LOVE THE BAND, I can't wait until my first fill though.

I am loosing weight and eating good and have started walking and feel GREAT.

All of you late bandsters and September, Don't back out. You might get scared etc etc. but it is worth it.

Well, if you have any questions then send me a PM.

Thanks
