I'm just wondering if anyone here has never had a stall after their surgery and exactly what you ate and your exercise routine. I haven't had my surgery yet, but I am meeting with my surgeon on Tuesday!!!:biggrin0:

My doc told me that everyone has a stall after two weeks that last 1-2 weeks. Most people refer to it as the week 3 stall. That's exactly what happened to me. It lasted for 12 days, then I started dropping again after that.

I never stalled (more than 14 days without any loss). Some weeks I'd only lose 1 pound, but I technically never experienced a true stall. When I was super close to goal, I didn't lose for 10 days, then out of nowhere, I dropped like 7-8 pounds without changing anything.

I stuck to my guidelines. No more than 30gr of carbs, 60+ Protein, and between 600-800 calories per day. When my loss wasn't slowing down, my surgeon had me add more carbs, but I was stubborn and still rarely got in more than 50gr per day.

I dropped 80lbs the first 4 months. Then it took me another 2.5 months to drop 33lbs. I continued to lose past goal, but it slowed way down when I upped my calories to 1000-1200 a day and stopped counting carbs as strictly. I dropped about 25ish pound over the next 4.5-5 months and my body seems to be content around 122-125ish pounds on any given day.

My first 3 weeks post-op were stressful because I did have major complications. For 20 days, I was pumped full of 1800 calories, all kinds of drugs, and Vitamins via a pic line in my arm because I wasn't allowed to eat or drink anything for 22 days. I was on clears for 17 days, a week of fulls then I was mushies for a couple of months while trying to incorporate solid foods very slowly.

My complications probably contributed to some of my immediate loss, but I came out of the hospital weighing 297lbs and on the day of surgery I weighed 263. I had lots of Fluid weight to lose, and I don't count that 34lbs in my loss.

It is going to be really hard for me to keep my carbs so low...Im a vegetarian, and everything I eat has carbs in them. I can keep my calories down though...

I expect a stall....

Tiffykins, can you tell me pretty much what you ate as far as protein goes. I am not a huge meat eater, so are there any other alternatives that you ate to get in your protein?

I've failed to keep my carbs low, I try to eat good carbs though. I need carbs because I'm on the go all day, 3 children (12yrs-10yrs and 10 months) and I go to the gym 4 times a week, without carbs to give me energy I wouldn't function. I'm happy with my weightloss though, I'm more than halfway to target after 2 monts (ticker not updated). I did stall for a few weeks at weeks 3-4 and I expect to stall again.

I am 6 weeks post op and I have not had a stall so far. {Knock on wood}. I am a heavy weight so that might be why I haven't had a stall yet. My surgeon's diet is centered around Protein and low carbs.

I am a super slooooow loser, which is really depressing. I'm on 600 cals-70+g's protein-60+oz water. I try to keep my carbs below 15g's and my fats between 20-23g's per day. I exercise 30 minutes a day -treadmill. I'm trying to shake things up this week though, 700 cals one day and less than 600 for a few days following, see what happens. I lost 20 pounds in the first 2 weeks and 20 pounds in the following 2 months for a total of 40 pounds in 10 weeks. Wish it was more.

Even the lowest carb protein bar that I can find is high in carbs. The beans in chili are high in carbs. Anyone have suggestions to keep the carbs low but the protein low?

I just try and use low glycemic index carbs like whole grains, low fat dairy and high fiber veggies...and not a bunch of refined sugar and white bread. This worked pretty good on South Beach in the past. Really kept the craving and hunger down. I think the carbs in Low fat dairy should be fine...and beans...check out the fiber, that is just carbs going out the other end!

Did you mean keep carbs low but protein high? I keep carbs very low, try to stay in the low teens on grams per day. Jerky, parmesan, oven roasted almonds, and greek yogurt are examples of snack/small meal foods that are great sources of protein while being pretty low carb. Fish, poultry, red meat, pork, tempeh, tvp, tofu, and yogurt are all excellent low carb bases for main course meals. If you look on the Glycemic Index of fruits and vegetables and select those lowest on the index, like green beans, then you will be selecting good low carb choices.

When it comes to cheese, I believe it's the harder the cheese, the lower the carbs but I'm not 100% on that.

If you are craving flavored drinks but want to stay away from carbs and sugar, tea is an excellent alternative. Any tea can be made hot or cold, sweetened or plain, caffeine or caffeine free. when I want that hint of creaminess without the carb cal price of milk, I use a little individual pot of creamer at 10 calories. Also your Protein shakes can take the place of milk and satisfy your urge for creaminess. Hope this helps!
