My 'old' doc has agreed to discuss sleeve size with me(he wants to do a 48 and I want something in the mid 30's), I had told them I was changing docs yesterday, and his nurse called me today and said he would like for me to come talk to him about it.

Thing is, they already have my insurance approval and everything in place and I had a surgery date with them for the 27th. My new doc search isnt going well, and it looks like I may have to go out of state.

Would it be possible to do a little poll here about what everyone has for

a sleeve size so I have some ammunition to take with me?

If you could give me just your sleeve size that would be awesome and I would be gratefull.

I THINK I have a 34f.

Seems the most common sizes are 32f and 34f.

I was told by a girl at the hospital who ran the pre-op informational class that my new tummy can hold 4 oz.

My doctors going to use a 34.

My MD used a 40f with a sew over. When I discussed this with him prior to the surgery, he said that he believes there to be a higher incidence of leaks, strictures, and reflux with the smaller bougie sizes. This was confirmed by my research other places. I want good weight loss, but with the lowest risk of complications. My weight loss may be a little slower than others, but I tend to think that this is not due to bougie size as much as the fact that I have led a sedentary lifestyle for several years and I haven't been able to start a walking program yet because my feet are still healing from plantar fasciatis, I'm older/menopausal, I'm not restricting my carb intake as much as some sleevers, and my metabolism is probably slower as a result of years of yoyo dieting. It's too early for me to say what my long term experience will be, but at this point, I feel all the restriction I would want, and I'm eating very small amounts of food. Also, I am happy that I have not had any problems with reflux and I am not having to take PPI's or antacids.

Mine is a 38

I have a 32fr, and there is very minimal difference between a 32 and 40. Once you get over 40, there is a bigger difference. The biggest contributing factor to final sleeve size is surgeon technique. A surgeon can use a small bougie, but not get super close to it with the stapler. Also, remember all of our anatomy is different. I can eat more than some people with a 36 or 38, and I have 32fr. There's a lot of factors with sleeve capacity. I wouldn't want any bigger than a 40fr personally just from the research numbers out on sleeves made with the bigger bougie saw a higher incidence of regain around 2-3 years.

I hope he reconsiders.

I already told you my size but I just want to say "good for you" for going after what you want. I know it will be a little more time if you end up having to switch... but its worth it to get what you want. You have probably done more research on bougie size than your doctor. Hopefully he'll agree to the smaller size and you can still have your insurance approval.
