  1. Hi everyone. This is my first post here. My surgery is scheduled for April 19th. I'm a single mom with not a lot of folks out there to help me after I come home from the hospital. My kids are teenagers and can function just fine independently. But I'm wondering what I may be experiencing in the first couple of weeks that may require ME to need help. Can someone give me a blow by blow on what to expect and how I might be feeling? Also, what are the odds that I'll be able to go back to work in three weeks, barring complications? Thanks!

    Why Gain It Back?

It will! It's a wonderful thing! As an aside, I have to tell you that popcorn is a dangerous thing! Turns out that it disintigrates to just about nothing in the stomach, so you can eat an awful lot of it even with your tiny little tummy. Stay away from the popcorn!!

    Weird Dreams

I remember having vivid and bizarre dreams about food for a good week or so after my surgery. Then it stopped. Completely. Could it be a pyschological reaction to a perceived traumatic loss?

    Roasted Cauliflower Soup

Yum. At this stage, I just want the roasted cauliflower straight out of the oven.

    Need to vent

No one said you are not allowed to still love food! Just very small amounts are going to be going into you at once from now on. But the stuff still tastes good and it is perfectly normal to be happy about having some. You tell your mom to bug off!
  9. You look fabulous! You have inpsired me to post my first pics also, but I don't know how!

    NSAIDS Ok?

My surgeon was extrememly reluctant to perform a bypass on me because of the problem with nsaids and steroids for folks who have that procedure. I have a medical condition that requires my use of these medications from time to time. The whole point of me having the sleeve, according to my surgeon, was to make it possible for me to take such meds.

Has anyone tried Shakeweight? I keep seeing commercials for it and I'm intrigued.

Four months out . . . still burping!!! LOL!

Pills all day - sick of it already!

Hang in there. It all goes back to normal in just a couple more months. I can swallow anything now, even these huge pills I have to take for a medical condition that I have. Those were the worst post-surgery. The taste of them crushed was absolutely horrific. After about 3 weeks, I was cutting them into thirds and swallowing them that way. Now I can take a handle of pills at one time and swallow lots of liquid all at once too. Remember, this time of your life is really brief. You can do it!

    Ricotta Bake

Mozzarella doesn't mush up very well, not matter how much you chew, once it's been melted. Just keep that in mind.

    Regrets?

    None!!! Not one!!
  19. Hi everyone. As is probably true for many of you, I learned from a pulmonologist shortly before my surgery that I have sleep apnea. That's a condition that is often caused by obesity. So I was wondering if any of you veteran sleevers out there have discovered that the apnea went away after a significant amount of your weight loss had occured. I must say that I really don't like this darn cpap machine :mad0: and I cannot wait to get rid of it.
  20. I would not drag that small of a meal out for thirty minutes. But if I wanted to eat a bit more than my sleeve can hold, I will make the meal last for that long. Whatever you can eat in five minutes is what can fit it your sleeve all at once.
  21. I think what you can eat at 8 weeks out may be very different from what you can eat at 6 months out. But I, at 3 1/2 months out, feel completely healed, normal and very, very restricted. I am delighted to find that my new stomach very quickly tells me what I can and cannot put in there. And it's very different from what it was at 8 weeks. If you can, take a breath and give it some time before making conclusions and worrying too much.
  22. I woke up today, a little more than three months out and about 45 pounds lighter, with an unusual feeling of energy. I am generally very low key, very laid back, very . . . okay, let's say it . . . LAZY. Today, I was not a lazy slug. I didn't feel the need to sit, lay down, rest. In fact, it never crossed my mind to stop doing all of the things that needed doing. Laundry, dusting, vacuuming, errands, cooking. What the heck is going on here??? Have I been taken over by an alien life form? Has this happened to anyone else? Should I call Ghostbusters?

    food service industry

How about keeping a handful of sugar-free Werther's in your pocket? It's a trick I use when I'm trying to avoid grazing at parties and other types of tempting but unnecessary food choices. I pop one in - no crunching or chewing - and savor the flavor.

    Help!!

Just remember, that staple line is still healing and you wouldn't want any hard bits of things to get stuck in there and fester.
