Unfill before revision??

When did you get unfilled before your revision. I am looking at mid March (have time off from work, scrapping and get the $$) Do I need to get a complete unfill??? So afraid of gaining too much weight back.

Thank you for your advice (Of course I am going to ask the MD.. leaning towards Dr. Aceves but he may be too expensive (I know..cost isn't everything..) Did anyone get a revision from him and he had you get unfilled?? What was the time frame??

Hi Stuck,

I had my revision with Dr. Aceves. He had me have a complete unfill two weeks prior to the surgery. That gave my tummy time to have any swelling from the band go down. He also had me do liquids only for one week prior to the surgery, due to all the problems I had with my band.

they unfilled me the day before surgery. I didn't have much of a fill in there because of all the problems I was having. Dr. Aceves didn't make me go on any preop diet because I hadn't gained much weight back after losing most of my fill.

They should either email you or tell you on the phone what they want you to do prior to surgery.

I didn't get an unfill, to my knowledge, but my surgeon does all of the fills/unfills himself, so he could have done it while I was out.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just had my band taken out two weeks ago and will go back and have the sleeve in March. My doctor said he likes to take the fill out right before he cuts the band off. That way there is a little room between the band and your stomach. Im sure all doctors have their own way of doing it though.

Best of luck to you!

I had my fill completely taken out about 10 days pre-op. They said it would give my tummy time to adjust before the revision surgery. Man, it sure was nice to be able to eat a dang salad again (couldn't with my fill)! I was afraid I might overeat with all that freedom, but found I really couldn't eat that much anyway (guess my tummy has shrunk). I was on a liquid diet for 3 days before surgery.

update..I am getting my band unfilled ~1 month before revision. I am paranoid that I will get something stuck and then it will be irritated at the band site. Looking forward to eating a salad!!!

This is becoming more real to me. I am excited and trying not to do the what if's.

This site has been very helpful to me. Thank you for sharing your experiences!
