Whoaaaaaaa... Locking threads at will?

Hold up hold up hold up!!!

I live here in America. Here is America we have this little thing called FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

Okay, now with that in mind we also have freedom in choice.

And with THAT in mind, why is it that this forum is so over moderated with threats of locking threads and deleting posts and everything? I agree I haven't been in the "mix" of things lately but I do have the right to speak my mind and I do choose whether or not to participate in those particular posts. I think that everyone in the questioned threads had a right to speak, whether they agreed or disagreed. I think that when you post a thread, you are opening it up to everyone. I think that when you have a thread, it is no longer "yours" but the becomes a part of the overall dynamic of the group. I do agree that some comments were nasty and uncalled for, but I also believe that everyone has a right to speak. Just because one person gets offended, then DON'T read that post (see freedom of choice above).

I think that nilly willy locking a thread because you have been queened or kinged as a moderator is ridiculous. I think a thread should only be locked if it is blatant advertising crap. Otherwise, let it ride. By not dealing with the problems and comments that doesn't SOLVE the issue, it lets it fester on other threads. Let people talk it out back and forth. Is it bickering? Sure it is, but we are a majority of women in this group, so isn't it a bit expected? Women have to hash it out to be done with it.

I think it is all getting taken too seriously.

Let people speak!!! (see above freedom of speech) Good bad and ugly.

There, I have said my 2 cents. Now feel free to come to THIS thread and say what you will because this is MY thread I have donated to THIS group, which makes it OURS.

Ooh, I'd feel PMing someone with something aggressive to say would be way out of line. If I felt that strongly that I just had to get my message through to a specific person, its time to walk away I think.

Well said Wheetsin, by the way. That's very true. I never even thought about who owned this board, I just found it and joined up.

I agree...I think it would--or at least it MIGHT--come across (to me, anyway) as a "personal" attack and be a little more threatening, and from there progress into kind of "attacking" emails and all.

So I don't ever send aggressive or argumentative pm's (well, except when I'm arguing with the moderators for slapping my typing fingers) because I would feel like I had kind of slinked off into a really personal thing that takes what I generally perceive as "open debate in a public forum" to a private name-calling thing.

Interestingly enough...I don't think I've ever received a hateful pm, either. And if I HAD, I'd have sent it off to a moderator or Alex right away, because I probably have perceived it as coming from a freaky person, who had real life issues.

In 3 years, I have never received a nasty PM. Thank goodness. Alternatively, I have never, or would never send one either.

Honestly, I think if someone 'attacked' me in PM, I'd be compelled to post it publicly. I do, however, see where PMing and having an adult discussion about a difference of opinion or misunderstanding could be beneficial.

This is EXACTLY what I was going to say. If ONE doesnt fit under the Troll category, then they shouldnt be offended.

I didnt see Leatha giving personal attacks here - or anywhere. Leatha *ALWAYS* uses on-line etiquette.

And I emphasis ALWAYS.

I -too- am praying for this place.

God bless LBT! (and esp. the "Trolls")

:amen: and may God continue to bless LBT!!

Keeping anything inside or repressing ones emotions and feelings about something is dangerous and cancerous forming (analogy), pretty soon, it will eat you up soo badly it will harm you.

I agree....I would also like to point out that for some, unfortunately, the cancer (analogy as stated) was already forming b4 coming to LBT. Sad but true. :cry

I cannot recall ever sending a nasty PM, although a few months ago I certainly received a few. I never replied, cause things like that only fuel a fire. I am rather proud that I was able to hold my tongue, and fingers, in this fight. Lord knows I love a good fight. LOL But I do agree that a place like this is not always a good place for this sort of thing. I do have to point out though that this sight is made up mostly of women. Yes we have some fine men here, but we are a female majority here, and as I told Alex...Sometimes us girls just gotta get catty in order to refresh our positions. It is human nature.

I think the mods and Alex have done very well on this round. I really appreciated Alex coming into the chat last night and chatting with us. He even heard out my concerns and feelings and I wasn't involved in the bout. How cool is that. :) Thanks LBT for an entertaining, yet resolved start to the week.

Marshmellows, Jenna, marshmellows. Get your mind out of the gutter.. so I have room to climb in there! LOL!

OMG, now that would be a PB to explain... would it not?? LOL!

That is what I was talking about.... what were YOU talking about?

Hmmmm, why whatever do you mean? Are you implying that I would think dirty thoughts? Who little ole me??? Pffffft. The thoughts never cross my mind.... ever.... or at least not in the last 5 seconds.

Then I am like a man. I think of sex everytime my husband walks in the door.

I'm a man man baby, yeahhhh (Austin Powers voice)

With regards to marshmallows, I am sorry, but if I am going to eat marshmallows, they are going to be roasted over a fire and slapped between two graham crackers and a hershey bar! :faint:
