Stuck Episodes

Does anyone think/know if someone could actually die from a stuck episode?

Umm, I cant see how exactly. If it's a really bad stuck then you may need an emergency unfill.

Don't think so! If you have a stuck episode, try either pineapple juice or coke. Both work about the same. If I use them, I drink them warm. It only takes a couple ounces to relieve, or upchuck the stuck thing. Good luck to anyone who has a stuck episode!

I think you are getting confused with choking. When you choke the obstruction is in your airway which prevents you from breathing so you can die. With a stuck the object is stuck in your stoma so it prevents food and fluid getting through. Yes it feels like you are going to die but it is highly unlikely. It takes a couple of days without liquid and a lot longer without food to kill you and most people would not be able to stand the pain and discomfort for that long before going to see their Dr to get it fixed.

They just sound SO scary!!!!

Does it feel like peanut butter stuck in your throat I am nervous about stuck episodes

Nothing to be scared of. It's mostly just an hour or less of discomfort. And no, it's not like Peanut Butter stuck in your throat although I've never experienced that. The closest I can relate the feeling to is I've taken Tylenol/codeine before and codeine shuts down my digestive system to the point that my stomach won't pass any Fluid or food into my bowels. My pyloric sphincter simply closes and won't open. So, food gets stuck in my esophagus.

It's a similar feeling but not exact.

Ever have a potato chip scrape when swallowing and feel like its hung up? It's like that but some food really is stuck so much so that you start producing extra saliva to help move it down. But sometimes it doesn't move and you fill up with slime and it gets to a point where that all comes up. And for me, the stuck feeling is more painful than when it all comes up. It's not like vomiting. Your stomach isn't involved in all this. It's all above the band.

Is that what they are calling PB's? I don't know all the banding terms yet :)

Yes. Some call it PB - productive burp.
