Me too. Banded on the same day. I'm on puréed foods for 3 weeks but I'm still hungry. Protein is supposed to help. I feel like I could just chow down on a big ol plate of real food.

You are lucky you can have puréed foods. I was banded on 7/23 and am on clear liquids for 2 weeks! Sugar free jello and chicken broth helps I also do 3 oz of protein every hour if I'm not full. Sipping crystal light all day!

That's a really tough stage to get thorugh. We've all been there and survived (somehow), even when you don't think you will. Yes, I remember thinking I really was going to starve to death! Every day your body will adapt a bit better, and you'll move on to more substantial food choices soon. Just remember that any cheating you do now could potentially do damage and slow your healing and set you back. Even sucking on sugar-free hard candies helped take the edge off for me. Find a trick that works for you, and it'll pass very soon.

Know that you are not alone! I was banded on the 24th and sip all day .. Shakes, soup, Popsicles, ect And I am still hungry! We can do it!

To answer the question, I found that drinking a protein shake every three hours and half to a full bottle of water in between is what helped me with the hunger. But for weeks, I have been trying to understand why others thought my diet after surgery was so weird. LOL. Now I get it. It seems based on most of the posts I've read, that many doctors have strict POST OP diet restrictions. I had a MONTH of PRE- Lapband diet restrictions and now a more lenient post up diet. I guess its different from doctor to doctor. I also had a moderate size hiatal hernia and an ulcer. So I wouldn't necessarily fit the normal circumstances.

I was banned on 7/15 and now I'm on 30 days of full liquids. It is difficult and I'm struggling. I keep Ensure on hand at all times, but cannot wait till 8/16 when I can start real food

I liked chicken broth, it felt like a meal to me. The swelling made me feel full most of the time and satisfied with chicken broth and I hated the protein shakes (just about all varieties)

Beth- my dr told me 2-3 oz at the top of every hour while you are awake. Also make sure they have alot of protein. Mine has 27 grams of protein per 8 ozs. Plain Jane shakes mixed with water

Glad I had this diet before surgery. However I understand the feeling of hunger. I agree with the previous poster. Have something at the top of the hour.

Banded 22nd also. My doctor has me on liquids first 2 days. 3-4 day v-8 juice, thin soups and yogurt. 5-6 add sugar free apple sauce, puddings.,smoothies and bananas. 1 week add mashed potatoes, cream of wheat and baby food. Well cooked veggies, veg soups and beans. 8-10 oatmeal, soft boiled eggs, low fat cottage cheese. By 2 weeks can slowly add baked fish and tuna. Plus the protein shakes.

you drink your shakes,,,,,,,drink your free liquids, eat popsicles and stay on course by keeping yourself busy and finding things to do...you come this far..........alittle bit longer GF

I don't know how other drs do it but my doctor didn't care if I had 20 shakes/drinks during the day as long as I stuck to liquids. He said it was about healing not losing, so I could have as much liquids as I needed to keep from feeling like I was starving.

Check with your doctor if this is the case. Shakes will keep you satisfied (but obviously not full) for an hour or so, so as long as you keep drinking shakes, water, broth, whatever, you should be able to stave off real hunger throughout your liquid diet. Don't get me wrong, I was dying for solid food by the end of the two weeks, but I never felt really hungry because if I did, I just drank something.
