I have finally been approved for surgery by my insurance company but don't have my surgery date yet. I notice that a lot of people struggle with the pre-op diet and was just wondering. Can we take diet pills during that time to suppress our appetite while we are going thru the 2week liquid diet prior to surgery.

I would recommend against it. It is time to start learning self discipline. You will need it later on. The band is NOT a diet, only a tool.

I'm with Cheznoel on this one... There is a lot of retraining to do during this process; pre and post-op. Although I understand the desire to lean on drugs to get through the "hard part", diet pills fall into the "old behavior" category. WLS is a complete change in anything you've ever known regarding weight loss, so it's best to white knuckle it......like everyone else. You will have greater success if you learn early on, how to get through the difficult times.

Like mrsintro says - the white knuckle approach :).im feeling really good with the will power approach in pre op - and each day gives me more confidence about the days to come. You will get thru it. Drinking lots of Water and trying to anticipate when the latent hunger becomes full on I NEED TO EAT NOW so you can have a Protein Shake before that transition moment has been helpful for me.

pre op is not a struggle. Its a struggle cause most people just LOVE food. I know I was one of them. They advise to stop taking all diet pills 2 weeks before surgery. Ask your doctor I bet he tell you the same thing. Do the pre op it will help you prepare mentally for the band and teach you some new eating habits. If your scared about the pre op then how are you going to work with the band? Its a piece of cake. Good Luck ! ! !

I agree pre op is important not only to shrink the liver but for your mental health where food is concerned. I'm 2 wks into pre op and I feel in control of making better food choices. The first two days was hell, but I survived!!! You will to plan and prepare. I ate my healthy meal at lunch time because of my schedule. I also drank the 42g myoplex shake that help me feel full longer. Good luck you can do it

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
