2nd appointment

So this is my first post on here. I have gone to my first appointment where they evaluate if you are a good candidate and I was, so my surgery may be sometime in September bec, ause my insurance requires 4 months of counseling. Today I get the regular counseling and the psychological counseling. What exactly happens during the psychological evaluation?

The psych eval is the easiest thing you're going to go through during this entire process. There is a questionnaire with 344 questions (multiple choice) and it mainly wants to determine your mental state (suicidal thoughts, unreasonable expectations of the band, if you feel like you have support). Then you have a short chat with the psychologist/psychiatrist (this actually happens before the questionnaire) and you're done. Mine took about 30 minutes - mostly to complete the questions. The chat is only 5-10 minutes long. Easy.

Good luck!

Not much happened with mine, it was about a 10 min conversation on the phone, and I can't even remember what was said I was so nervous. But I do know it was real simple stuff. Just stuff about me and my weight. Best thing I would say is just try not being to nervous it really is not all that bad. At least it was not for me.

I sat in his office and he asked me was I ever put in hospital mental ward or what other hospital stays did I have, my medical background and then went over was I sure I wanted this surgery. My dr works with my lap band doctor so he spent about 10 or 15 min going over procedure and advising me what to expect and also what I needed to expect. Was a good visit. He wrote the letter that I needed for my dr to send to insurance for approval.

I had just questionaires and a short talk with psychologist. She seemed to want to be sure that I could describe the surgery to you and how fills are done... they want you to say with a needle. Apparently lots of folks are needle phobic.
