Help

I was banded on the 14th. Did 4 days of Clear Liquids. I'm on day 3 of any liquid. This is so incredibly hard. My kids are asking for cheese puffs and my mid rationalizes that the puffs melt in your mouth. What do I do but just ate a few handfuls melted in my mouth and chews up to a liquid consistency. I am SO hungry. How do I get through this?

I hope I haven't caused any damage..

I have such sympathy for you bandsters with families. I live alone so there's no one to cook tempting foods for and no one to buy things for that I shouldn't eat. I can't imagine how difficult it is for those of you who have to feed a family while you can only have liquids. All I can tell you is to stay strong and know that it will get better. Once you are on mushies, you are much more satisfied.

You didn't hurt yourself but u really need to stay on liquids because you r healing. I was banded March 1 and I PROMISE it gets better!! I also went thru hell because I was so hungry and my kids were eating all the good stuff. U can do this, stay strong!!

Thanks so much...12 more days of liquids. Do u think I may have caused any damage?

No. You're fine but stop eating crap! Drink protein shakes, cream soups, egg drop soup anything but crap.

You would have felt it if anything got stuck. You are lucky you didn't get into a PB episode.

It is very uncomfortable and being new at this, it freaked me out pretty good.

Just remember that it's not ok to do this anymore. You need to follow your Dr's instructions to a "T" in order to heal properly.

I don't say this to give a guilt trip, just to instill the importance of your Dr's instructions. Your kids will understand that you need to heal. If they don't now, they will when they see you PB for the first time.

Thanks so much for your replies! What is a PB episode?! Why am I so hungry??

A PB is productive burping. Not really vomiting because the food never makes it into the stomach, just kinda sits above the band. It will happen if you don't chew your food completely or wait a minute between swallows. It is a form of regurgitation and not comfortable at all.

As for the hunger, have you been drinking Water and the Protein Shakes? Sip sip sip.... Not too fast!

I would try to get rid of the junk food. The kids will live without it, I promise. :) It's much too tempting to keep junk in the house.

I have always been a very fast drinker. With water, coffee, any type of drink. I find myself wanting to swig like I'm used to. How many ounces at one time?

Do what you feel is ok, your band will let you know if you over do it.

Hello - I was reading your explanation of PB'g - is that the same as getting stuck??

Yes, PB is what happens after stuck. When you make it come back up.

I was banded on 3-8-13 and I too have 4 kids in the house. I filled house with Jello, popsicles, low fat yogurt, light V8 juice, no sugar added apple juice, ect to make it easier on me. I kept telling myself that snacking and junk food was a part of why I need this band in the first place. I too have gotten hungry as my stomach swelling has went down. The number one thing to help is to sip and eat VERY slowly. This is the EXACT opposite of what I use to do. However, if I take 20 minutes to drink a shake or a cup of Soup I will fill up. I try to take a sip/ bite every minute. And yes I have to look at a clock to slow down. It has gotten easier. And it's better than feeling hungry. Then in 2 hrs I will then snack on jello, yogurt, ect. I also try to walk when I am hungry or get away from food if possible. YOU CAN DO THIS! It's so worth it!
