I also heard from a few people that if your band doesn't take your insurance won't pay to have it removed..

I'm not sure if its something everyone has (kind of think it is) but I had a breathing tube during surgery. My throat was a little sore after surgery for a couple hours, but nothing major.

You are put completely under and on life support so you have to have a breathing tube. I have no knowledge about insurance and removal, tho'. maybe you need to contact your insurance for that information, or at least the surgeon and hospital. Sorry, I can't advise you on that. Best wishes, Karen

its major surgery so they will (as kll said) put you completely out. so yes, they will use a breathing tube.

if your insurance approves this surgery, they know the breathing tube is (included). congrats on the journey

Some insurances will pay for the removal of a defective unit and replace it free. Some insurance companies figure that the added expense to them will be lots cheaper than if you continue being obese and all the possible and expensive health problems you may have over a long term career.

I was out and on a breathing machine for assistance during surgery.

There is a tube is put down your throat to assist in holding the band in place while your surgeon sews it to stomach tissue. The tube pushes from the inside to the outside of the stomach wall and the surgeon positions the band in a more level place. There are Youtube videos that show this procedure.

As others have said ..... yes you will have breathing tube. You will be completely dependent on the anthesoligist for your life.

My advice with regard to the insurance question it to call your company and ask the same question. My insurance company didnt pay for it to be put in... (even with a BMI of 55...sorry sorry..sore subject) But if I have complications and it needs to be removed they will pay... go figure.

Anesthesiologists will almost always use the tube because anesthesia always slows down respiration and sometimes people with apnea may stop breathing, they need to be ready for an emergency! They do not insert the tube until you are under so you won't see or feel it. I don't have sleep apnea and when I had gallbladder surgery the nurse woke me up a few times in recovery and told me to breathe. Don't be scared they're professionals!
