Shoulder Pain- Revealed!

Recommended Posts

Went for my first Post Op appt. was telling the doctor about this left shoulder pain that was especially unbearable when I bend down.

Turns out it is caused by the tubing, rubbing against my diaphram and irritating. It has caused an inflammation so I'm supposed to take gel caps of Motrin.

Wow, I know they told me that the tubing could cause odd pains, never would have guessed that though.

I had the mystery shoulder pain for a short time after my surgery, but it went away after the next fill. Mine only hurt after I ate, so I didn't eat much that month. LOL Feel better !!

I am not banded yet... Not until Nov 6. My doctor said most everyone will experience left shoulder pain because of the gas in your body after surgery... I asked him if it would go away and he said it definitely would go away. He didn't mention anything about the tubing just gas.

Hopefully your pain goes away quickly and you feel better!

I was banded with plication last tuesday (oct 9). I experienced shoulder pain as soon as I woke in recovery. I expected it. It is from the gas they pump you with during the operation. Walking is the only way to get rid of it. I have never heard about tubing giving shoulder pain. I had the band a few years back and I had it for almost 4 yrs...never did the tubing bother me.

I hope whatever is causing your pain ceases and you can enjoy the journey we have just started!

The pain immediately post surgery is from the gas, if it carries on longer than that then as the Dr says it is because of the tubing irritating the vagus nerve. There are some bandsers that had such bad issues with it that they eventually had their bands removed. Hopefully your's isn't that bad and it goes away.

good luck

Agreed. My pain was definitely right after surgery but a few months later. If you can't wait it out until your next fill, get an adjustment sooner which should help.

I'm confused. A fill will help? How?

I had the same pains for a few weeks after surgery and now I feel like i have a permanent stiff neck.

I found a fantastic heating pad on Amazon that conforms to the shape of your shoulders and neck - I can't recommend it enough. It's made by Sunbeam and it's called the Renew Heat Therapy Neck and Shoulder wrap. It has been my lifesaver!!

A fill is what helped me with the shoulder pain. Whatever was pushing on that nerve moved or adjusted, and my pain stopped. That was just my experience, of course.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
