First Food Today

Got my band 9/20/12

Ate my first "real" food today

Not drinking with dinner was the worst part !

So I have a question

If we wait 30 minutes to drink so we doesn't wash the food thru the band,

How does the food stay in there after 30 minutes?

Won't it wash away 30 minutes later?

I really don't get this part !

Splain Lucy !

I don't know the answer. 3 weeks from band but I too worry about drinking. Via try now to get use to it. It's hard.

Ready to change my life!

I think it has something to do with your brain receiving the "I'm satisfied" message like 20 minutes after you eat and then it's okay to start drinking at 30 minutes. But I'm sure some of the veteran bandsters will chime in and can shed some light on this.

i was told to wait 60 min. I believe you also get your nutrition and everything you need from as well. The food doesn't just stay in the band forever

Each doctor has a different rule regarding drinking around/during meals. My doctor says its ok to drink while eating as long as you wait 1 minute after swallowing a bit. I don't drink during meals, but then again I never did really.

This is one of the subjects that causes debate, there are several WLS articles on it.

I was told from Nutrientionist to try ice chips with meal if needed. I am only 3 day post op...but I did ask the question cuz I was concerned since I always eat with drink.

They told me 45 min after meal for drinking.
