Need Something Crunchy To Replace Chips?

Ok so I have been (am) on the hunt for low carb foods that will replace chips. And boy have I tried a lot!! Anyway i ran across a product the other day that I think will help.

The are called Moon Pops. They are kind of like very thin rice cakes. I wouldn't say they are flavorfull....more like the absence of flavor. But they are crunchy and thats what I needed.

They have 16 calories/0 fat/ 4 carbs for 1 piece about a 6" circle. They don't hold up well to heat, they get rubbery--like a stale cheese puff. but they are good with a thin layer of peanut butter or a thin layer of cream cheese and sugar free jam, a thin layer of your favorite dip....I even put a thin layer of refriend beans, cheese and ff sour cream.

They real have no flavor so they just provide the crunch I was looking for.

I found them at kroger in virginia, but have not seen then anywhere else...maybe on line.

Just thought I would share.

Does anyone else have a good suggestion? I have considered veggies already...while good...they taste like veggies with a topping.

WASA crackers are good too for the crunch.

I make kale chips and zuchinni chips in the oven. Just a little cooking spray and sea salt yum yum!!

Love kale chips!! And so much Vitamin A in them!

I find that baby dill pickles really satisfy my potato chip craving. Salty and crunchy. Sometimes I grab a few when dinner isn't for a while and need that little something to hold me over.

I love the baby fills too! They do satisfy!

I crush my crunch cravings with macadamia nuts.

In a couple of his low-carb cookbooks, George Stella has recipes for crunchy snacks. My favorite is what he calls "Goldfish". It's American or similar sliced cheese cut into 16 pieces, sprinkled with seasoning (I like Montreal steak seasoning) and baked at 400 for 7 minutes. When they first ome out of the over there is no crunch, but after they cool, they are very satisfying.

Pork rinds are good, too. Protein but no carbs.

But my favorite crunch is pickled okra. I'm not fond of other okra, but I love the pickles. They are hard to get locally, so I buy a case at a time from Amazon.

Pork rinds! They are protein !!! :)

I like Special K multi grain crackers for crackers. I get banana chips from Walgreens, pineapple chips from Walmart, almonds and add Quacker Oat Squares dry cereal for my own trail mix. I like the veggie straws too!

I also do popcorn, but I do the 100 calorie bag I also do the special k chips , only a few at a time I found out unfortunally I can no longer do cucumbers or pickles I don't know what happened but my band says no more , also I loved celery & peanutbutter but I can no longer do celery either , so I have to put peanutbutter on apple slices only a few tho and I have to peel the apple slices , it sounds funny but I like banana slices with peanutbutter also.

Cant wait to try some of these things. I am on week 2 after surgery. Still on liquids. Next phase is mushy.

Try Benito's bean chips. There are several flavore, and all are good, crunchy and have reasonable protein content. Really good with re fried beans and/or chili.

I have no problems with my band when eating chips....I can also eat different types of crackers...and always do with tuna fish, etc........

but no bread and bread related products.

:D Just the thought of having something other than liquids or mushie. At when point do I get to start eatting regular food. Pickles, Nuts, Peanut Butter..(whooho) there are just a few things that Im missing. Im missing the feeling of grinding my teeth on something. I did chew a piece of meat the other day just cause I was needing that feeling of grinding something. I know Im only 5 days post-op. But hating the liquid and mushie stage. Ready for something real.
