Going Well, Except 1 Thing

Recommended Posts

Banded X3 weeks tomorrow. I think it's all going well. Down 17 lbs. Despite having to be pretty active, more than I had hoped, I feel pretty good, Tired a lot (can be attributed to other things too though), but otherwise good. I have one question though, after I eat, ANYTHING even liquids, I have a light to medium pressure in my chest and feel like "fake" burping a lot. I don't think I am getting stuck, I think that would hurt more, and things seem to be going down just fine. After two weeks of pre-surgery liquid diet which went very well, I was only supposed to be on full liquids PO one week, then mushies one week, then normal but well chewed, which I am doing mostly, with mushies still too. I have been able to eat everything I have tried and felt fine, can eat quite a bit still too, about half to 2/3 of what I could eat before surgery. Just wondering if that is normal, or if I should be worried. This isn't the post surgery gassy tummy which I had and has subsided, nor is it the stopped up bowels which I had and have resolved, it's been there since I got banded and is there pretty much constantly, and gets a bit worse after surgery, feels like it is at the bottom of my throat. Just makes me want to pretend burp....SO WIERD.

On another note (and here's where any Men or otherwise squeamish folks might want to tune out). I had read somewhere that the presurgery and post surgery diet induces a sudden drop in estrogen which can cause emotional symptoms similar to baby blues (which I havn't had much of) and other cycle issues. I have severe PCOS in part due to my weight (or my weight is due to PCOS who knows which) and havn't had a natural period in YEARS. So on day 4 presurgery diet, I started spotting. Stopped 2 days post surgery, and started again today. ANYONE ELSE HAVE THAT ISSUE???

I did not have the women issues, but have read many times on these boards about women who are pushed into periods right after surgery, even if they are taking BC.

Congratulations Amanda, you are perfectly normal post-op! Everything you described happened to me and I have read about it happening to others here on these boards.

I've lost 130lb in almost 12 months, so I am guessing you would be happy to be declared normal. :P

My cycle was screwed up the month after surgery. I use Nuvaring for birth control and to control my PCOS, so I was used to my cycle being pretty regular. After surgery, my period was late, and when I got it, I bled for almost 2 weeks. I was so freaked out I went to my GYN, but she said the stress of surgery coupled with strong antibiotics threw everything out of whack. I haven't had any problems since. My PCOS has pretty much resolved after losing so much weight, so you should hopefully see some improvement too!

Just want to second that you seem to being doing just fine. I had the same experience with chest "pressure" and feeling like I had to burp. Keep up the good work!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
