Hi Mara my dr didn't give a specific weight loss amount but I lost 10kg. The idea he said was to reduce fluid and fat off the liver so they can lift it during surgery without it breaking or tearing.

I wasn't giving an amount to lose but I was put on a high protien diet and lost 17 lbs before surgery and I'm 3 days post op and am down 22 lbs now ... Just had to drink 5 protien shakes and day and 2 cups of veggies it was hard but I can't believe I lost so much in 2 weeks !

my doc wanted me to lose 10 lbs. about 5% of my body weight.

Are you talking about during a 6 month supervised diet or the 2 week pre-op?

The doctor at the seminar said that everyone is required to lose weight before surgery and for him it's based on your starting weight but I have heard about people needing to lose a % of their weight. I was just wondering what others had to do.

My doc didn't tell me I had to lose weight during my pre op week of clears and protein shakes but the goal he wanted was for my liver to shrink. A friend of mine who saw a different surgeon had to do just 3 days of clears and protein shakes. I can't imagine 2 weeks of it.
