Pre Lap Band Surgery Diet

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am a newbie. I am currently in my pre-op diet phase where I drink liquids. My surgeon has me eating/drinking medifast food. Some of it is awful. I am struggling here. I want some real food. Things are getting easier but I struggle with some of these food choices. What did/are you doing to help you get through this face? My surgery is 12/22, no turning back now.

My dietician said I could get a rotisserie chicken and put it in the blender with chicken broth and make my own Soup to feel a little satisfaction during the preop diet. It was wonderful! You can even add some frozen veggies in after they are cooked and blend with it too. Also in the preop diet phase you can peel a baked potato put it in the blender add some skim milk and butter and u have creamed potatoes. Very satisfying! Hope this helps!

On my preop phase there was no "tinkering" allowed. It had to be a Meal Replacement shake twice a day and some plain low carb veggies in the evening and that was it. I got through it the same way as most other people by keeping the end goal in sight. I have never managed to stick to a meal replacement diet before but this time it was easier as I knew it wasn't going to be forever.

Wonder why all the doctors seem to have different pre-op diet. Mine said two liquid Meal Replacements and one lean Protein meal, either chicken or fish and some veggies.

I guess it all comes down to how much weight your doctor wants you to lose. Reading some of these diets I wish I was as fortunate to have these options. Things are getting better though from a hungar standpoint. Just wished it tasted better. Oh well, all eyes on the prize.

I never had a pre op diet so I cant help you there. I would call them and ask if you can replace some of the aweful things with better tasting things.

Make yourself a 1/2 cup of mashed potatoes...dont add too much butter besides what the box says. This is what kept me going, the Protein shakes felt empty and I was sick of them. Also if you blend some bananas and strawberries and a 1/2 cup of milk with your shake it will make it taste almost like a smoothie. Good luck hang in there....

BTW I didnt really follow my pre op and post op diets and I was fine. Just had discomfort after the 3rd day of my surgery when I tried to eat a sandwich and realized that bread is my new enemy.

I am on my pre-op diet right now too. My surgery is the 16th. I have been on my sugar free, pretty much liquid diet for a week now. I have been having broth, Soup, Jello, pudding, applesauce, popsicle s, and oatmeal. I have been following pretty well. Today, we celebrated my sister and my birthday. I had a salad and very small slice of pizza. Which I think is alright. I have been counting calories and even with the pizza I came in under 1500 calories. I really think it is like a test run for how to make better decisions for after the surgery.

I am going to break out the blender and try some new things just to change it up so I don't cheat.

My doctor was not really to worried about the diet either. He said it just makes for a faster and recovery to lose a little weight before. Also it helps shrink your liver so it makes it easier for the surgery.

I just keep thinking that if this is what I have to do to start my new adventure in this life then I will do it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
