Coffee

Ok, Be honest! Does anyone drink even a teeny weeny bit of coffee even though we're told not to? I see blogs where people do drink a bit of coffee with no negative effects. I'm not a huge coffee drinker, but I do miss my half cup in the morning.

Amen! Low to moderate doses of caffeine do not create dehydration and do not act as a diuretic for the vast majority of people. The research on high doses of caffeine just gets overextended to non-c

I have one cup every morning and have had no problems. Coffee is a diuretic so just keep up on the other liquids and you'll be fine. I gave up cigarettes, sugar, carbonated drinks and most carbs so I h

My new fav thing to do is mix 1/2 a packet of starbucks Carmel via instant coffee with my vanilla Protein shake in ice in my magic bullet. Voila vanilla caramel frappachino with only 40 more calories than your regular protein shake.

I DID THE SAME SORT OF THING! :DBEST Protein shakes EVER!

I totally made myself coffee protein shakes every day with espresso! They say not to drink coffee because it makes you more hungry, but the reason it makes you more hungry is because it gives you energy and speeds up your heart rate, and when you have more energy, you burn more calories so it kinda contradicts itself.

thought caffine was an appitite supressant. it helps me not eat as much. Great idea for when I get the surgery. You all rock!!!!

Yep, I have to say I drink coffee every day with FF French Vanilla Creamer. I won't give that up, well maybe someday but the coffee stays. My doc is fine with coffee, soda in moderation and even some alcohol again, in moderation.

Singingpeaches you are a genius! I have been advised to mix my Protein in with my morning coffee and I can soooo do that recipe. Just brilliant! :D

I drink a black cup every morning with a truvia in it. Midmorning I make a sugarfree skinny hazelnut latte. When I am out I pick one up from starbucks! The skim milk in my latte is protein and has 80 cals for the cup I use. Starbuck is closer to 100. They do have a chart that you can ask for that lists the cals in all their drinks. ENJOY

I drink a lot of coffee. My doctor is against it for the fact that it can cause acid reflux and ulcers. I don't think I can ever give up my coffee. I love iced coffee in the summer with skim milk and splenda...yum!

I follow this website called hungrygirl.com and just today she did a slimmed down version of the Starbucks Mocha Coconut Frappucino. I love her ideas on making stuff that we love with the same taste as original but lower cals.

I just added half a packet of the Caramel Via to 1/2 cup vanilla soy milk, and one scoop of my whey vanilla protein powder. It was deeeeeelish! Just like a regular frappucino but 20g protein!

Speaking of booze...my doctor, right before my surgery told me: first week you can have all the Clear liquids - I don't care if you drink Vodka or Tequila - as long as they're clear. So if my surgeon says it's OK - it's OK. Not that I've had any - but this 4th of July weekend I will definitely partake upon the all-american margarita.

coffee - from now on - no more 7-11 swill or office crap or even Starbucks. As the saying goes, garbage-in garbage-out - I'm going for the java of all java's: Peet's Coffee Sumatra Java - that thing is pure pleasure - maybe even will get the espresso machine.

coffee is not dehydrating nor is a diuretic when consumed in normal amounts.. 2 or 3 cups a day. These are myths that are taking a long time to die.

It might be an appetite stimulant for some, but for me, I find it to be the opposite, it helps relieve my late afternoon desire to eat and helps me wait till suppertime.

I am 5 wks post op and I couldn't go without a tiny bit of coffee either. I had my first cup at 3 wks out and I only drink one cup a day when needed. I don't drink as much as I use to. When I do I makesure I drink extra Water on those days. A half of cup won't hurt you. All depends what you put in it. I put splenda and fat free half and half or sugar free creamer.

I'm only 4 days post band. I have been trying and coming close to getting in my 64 oz of Fluid daily, but don't really drink straight Water. I drink very diluted juices mostly. Do you think that's ok? I just find plain water so boring!

:P

I drink 2 cups of coffee with sugar free hazlenut creamer every morning. If I am "head hungry" in the late afternoon, I drink an additional cup because it fills me up for very few calories and does suppress my appetite.

OP: here is a link to a "Starbuck's like drink"-- she actually has TONS of recipes that are WLS friendly--
