Well, It's now May 2011 and I actually weigh more than I did when I had the surgery. Whoopie Me! Now, I've never slipped and I've never eaten to the point where I could cause slippage, instead I've learned how to eat around the band.

I just kind of feel broken at this point. My goal in life is to be an FFK "Former Fat Kid," but I'm at a turning point in life right now, so here I am - back again.

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry Are you in contact with your surgeon's office at all? I know my office made a big deal of telling me to never be ashamed to come back in and ask for help if I need it- they said sometimes people will start to gain and not want to show their face in the office. Seems like they could help you right now.

You bring some most eloquent points to the discussion. By succeeding at continuation of our bad eating habits some of us have a perverse notion we continue to be in some kind of control. There are a lot of tools professionals have to help us actually lose a significant portion of our excess.

Our new postOp comfort zone must be adjusted along with abnormal eating behavior to achieve our goal.

I too have not had the success I had hoped for. Since my surgery I lost a few pounds (40), got very sick from gallbladder and lost a few more (30). Had some surgeries, got well and gained back 30. Got extremely frustrated. Gee whiz!!!

I go to support group meetings and listen to people whine because they had their surgery two months ago and have only lost twenty pounds.

It's never too late to start over. Since rededicating myself I've lost a whopping 3 pounds and only have about 80 to go. You can start over too. Join me Jay. Start over with me. We can do this!

For me, there has been such a psychological component to this whole process. It seems that each time I was getting ready to hit a new milestone, I'd freak out a little and start cheating. It was such a ridiculous and obvious fear of success. Luckily I was able to get back on track each time and get back with the program. But in my total humble opinion - those that sabotage themselves by eating around the band just need the confidence to be happy with success. As badly as we all want this, there's such an odd feeling for many of us when we actually start doing well. When we should be thrilled to death, we look at ways to impede our progress. I know... it's hard to understand unless you've had this feeling.

Please don't think I'm judging anyone... because I get it - I know how it feels.

Maybe you can check out overeaters anonymous? Get into as many support groups as you can. Do you have access to counseling? The weight is just a visual result of what's going on inside. What is making you eat "around" the band? Really look into the reasons behind it.........I can say I have a food addiction. The food is such a comfort that it sucks. I'm trying to learn to be dependent on myself and IN-dependent of food. For me food is a band-aid, and a crutch for what is really going on inside. The weight is a way for me to hide and not be the me I want to be. The fear is suffocating me......but that's just me. We all have our own story. We all have our own truth and we all have our own journey......

I think you just need to start anew. How is your restriction, do you think you need a fill? #1 rule, eat protien first, that would be a start. The idea of eating protien first is to fill you up and keep you full which should keep you from eating the junk (somewhat). It will also take some will power. Also, do not drink when you eat. You need to get back to the basic rules of the band. If you haven't been to your dr. for a while, go. It's a battle but one you can win!!! Good Luck!

Ive just recently started to gain wait. and I know for deffinate my band isnt working. The thing is I cant afford to keep having it filled. Becasue here in the uk they fill it 1 mil at a time at the cost of £150. I dont know where to turn at the minute. could do with someone to talk to.

Thanks for such an outpouring of support. As for my personal impressions of the band, I think it's a good tool and I'm still glad that I had the surgery. But I've had to come to the realization that it's just that - a tool. Unfortunately, I'm treating my lap-band like my lawn mower (currently my dogs are getting lost in the forest in my backyard). I know I need to use the tool, but it's like my will-power for the whole process has been zapped. I'm trying to figure out a way to get it back. I've had a few false starts along the way and I've always had an excuse of some kind to let myself off the hook when it fails.

Fill-wise, I'm doing fine on that front. To sebsternooni, WOW I can't believe how much a fill costs there!! Here I complain about driving the hour to my doctor's office and paying the $20 copay. The distance from me to my doc's office has always been one of the drawbacks, and with the way gasy prices are soaring....(see I'm great at rationalizing and excuse making).

Overall, I know what my problems are. I know how I'm supposed to eat. I know all of the Bander inside tips for eating properly. I'm just having a motivation problem. Maybe I've given up, but I don't think so. I think I've gotten to the point where I'm just tired, and I need a new way to energize myself.

I am in the process of getting ready to get the lap band, but to tell you the truth, some of these stories are making me reconsider. Right now I have absolutely no will power or motivation and I am hoping that by getting the band, it will "force" me to stop eating so much and get me going on the motivation I need. Am I wrong, Should I just try another Jenny Craig diet again?????

Like I said in an earlier post, I don't regret getting the band at all. I just need to learn to treat myself better and use the tool like it's supposed to be used. If I do what I'm supposed to do, it will work (no problems). I just haven't been being a good bander.

I am kinda glad to see this type of post. This is my biggest fear for myself. Jay, i think that with any life change maybe you need to start like i did when i went from 315 to 240 w/o the band. (Hoping to be banded next month or so) I just had to start moving and doing whatever it took to feel better. DOnt try and take in the whole thing and change everything all at once. You have the tool its up to you to utilize it, when your ready and in away that works for you. For me the whole point of this journey is for me to feel better and be healthy. Take sometime , listen to your body and react accordingly. I would agree that an over eaters anonymous group would help i hav ebeen to some of those meetings and they are awesome.

You said you know the steps, pick a few changes say 2, do those for a few weeks then add others, next thing you know your on track with minimal pain.
