How many calories a day?

Recommended Posts

My doctor told me that I can only eat 600 calories a day... but when I read these forums I see so many different numbers... are there some official guidelines? I am 5'11" so it seems a little drastic...

That seems drastic, especially for someone 5'11". I am only 5'2" and I would not drop my calories down that low

I stay between 900 and 1100 calories. But my surgeon did mention to me something about new studies that show 600 is okay.....

I'm also 5'2" and am trying to stay between 800 - 1,000. My Dr. is OK with my success so far... and still haven't even had my first fill yet. However, I'm now finding it a little more difficult and know I could definitely eat more. Dr. apt on the 12th and thinking I'm going to ask for my first fill.

I do about 1200, that is what is realistic to me... can't see how you would be satisfied with 600 calories.

I'm between 900-1200...the difference depends on whether or not I eat Breakfast.

600 calories a day seems low. My NUT wants me to eat between 900-1100 calories each day.

1400, possibly working my way to 1500. When you have a lot of weight (fat) to lose, having a large calorie deficit (say 1600) is okay, because your body will use and burn the excess fat for energy. I started off eating 600-800 calories, and as I lost more, I ate more, and exercised more. Now I'm at 1400 calories, and toning more than anything. I have 12 more lbs to go.

I aim for about 1000 calories, knowing I will go above or below by about 100 or so each day.

When I was at Disney World this summer, I wore my body bugg and was burning up to 4000 calories a day and eating about 1000 calories a day, but I didn't lose A SINGLE POUND in a week. When I took my body bugg info in, the doc said I hadn't eaten nearly enough calories for my output and therefore my body was probably holding onto everything.

He said I should never drop below 800 calories during a normal day for the same reasons.

How many days post op are you? I only ask because Clear Liquids are very low in calories. In general my Nut says to shot for 1200; though the nurse says not to count calories.

Normally I gave myself a window of 800 - 1200 calories a day.

Since my last fill, I really have no desire to eat. So with shakes,

and Protein I do around 600 - 800 a day.

My experience is that the more, the more cals u can get away with. Initially, on a 1200 +/- cals/day, I was losing 2#/week. Now that I'm near my goal, I'm losing approx. 1/2 # per week. Remember, muscle is a lot harder to lose than is fat. Don't get to wrapped up in weight loose as long as u don't gain.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
