Has anyone on here had to give themselves Lovenox injections post opp? Mine are very painful and keep causing bruising and knotting.

I had to do the injections for 10 days after surgery. I never felt it... but there was some bruising. Maybe you are moving the needle when you inject?

Not to be nosy, but is there any particular reason why your doctors felt you needed these shots on top of what they give you before surgery (and why do you have to do it yourselves)? I have a horrible fear of needles and pray to god I would never have to do anything like that; part of the reason why I want to lose weight is fear of getting diabetes and needing insulin shots...

I have never given myself Lovenox shots though I've received them in the past. If you have'nt already done so call you PCP office and ask for an appointment so the nurse can give you a lesson. melzie_99Lovenox is a injected blood thinner. At one point there was concern I may need to be on Lovenox pre and post surgery becuase I was on a pill blood thinner. Lovenox is a less strong thinner so you would be less likely to hemorage during the surgery. My surgeon did'nt want me on coumadin (blood thinner pill ) 10 days prior to surgery. As it turned out I was allowed to go off coumadin prior to surgery and then start up after surgery. Most surgeons perscribe Lovenox shots while you in the hosptital both pre and post surgery.

I am an old pro at lovenox. I have a clotting disorder and have been on coumadin since 1989. I cannot go even one day without being anticoagulated, so I bridge with lovenox very frequently. After my banding, I was on lovenox for several weeks because we weren't sure how the band would impact my coumadin absorption.

I recommend injecting it slow but steady....trying not to move the needle.....the wait about 10-20 seconds before removing the needle. Do not rub the site!!!!!

Good luck!

Jackie

I am giving myself the lovenox for 10 day post op too ! it does burn a little but I am happy to do whatever it takes to lose this weight. i think the there were way worse things we had to do for this. the drink test before surgery and after were sooo gross.... it was painful the day after surgery to lay on a cold flat slab drink salt Water that was brown and roll left to right then the machine stood me up and they had to time how long it took to leave my stomach............... that was wayyyy to much for me. i rather inject myself anyday ! lol

I'm not complaining about having to do it. I just wanted to know if anyone is having the same reactions I am. Also, I didn't have to do any drink the before nor after surgery...

Thanks for the advice. From what I've read, it's probably because I am going to fast and moving the needle to much. At least now I know for sure that nursing is not my calling. LOL

Make sure you are injecting yourself in fat and not muscle. If you're injecting into muscle it will really hurt a lot.

My mom is on Lovenox because she got a blood clot after knee surgery. She has experienced pain after she injects the medicine into her stomach.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
