October 2010 Bandsters!!

I finally got my date today!! Woohoo! Feel like I have been waiting forever. October 18th they offered me the 5th but b/c of my work schedule I could not do it :) I feel so much better though that I have a date and can now make plans, with time off work etc...

Who else is getting banded in October? I think it will be nice to have others to compare feelings and stories with, as we are going through this.

Good Luck to everyone! New Chapter here I come

Seems that Oct. 25th is a big day for some of us!!

It is so interesting how the pre-op diet is so different for so many. My pre-op diet is strictly liquids, no food. I'm supposed to have at least 4 protein shakes per day, plus I can have broth, sugar free popcicles and sf jello. Also, water with crystal lite. The plan calls for a minimum of 70 grams of protein per day and no more than 30 grams of carbs. Then post op will be the same thing for 2 more weeks.

Good luck to all!!

Hi, I'm on 3 shakes a day (or 2, plus 1 optifast bar), and 1 to 2 cups of low starch vegies at night, plus 2 fruit during the day, if I need them. Cooking the veg along with the evening meal, means I can sit and eat something with my partner, and not feel quite so miffed about cooking for him :-) I note from your profile that we are around same age, weight, bmi etc., so we have a good deal in common, as well as the lapband op.

I got my band on Oct 15th... My Doctor and his staff are amazing

I lost 10 pounds on the pre surgery diet. I was on it for a week and then I had my surgery on Oct 15th 2010 and now 3 days later I have lost another 6 pounds... Good luck

Hi Ish, nice to meet you! You're almost there. How are you feeling with the surgery being so close?

I hope when you feel up to it, you will post and let us know how it all went. Wishing you the best on Thurs.

Hey all,

Sitting here in my room in the hospital, Doc said surgery went great. I don't have any pain at the incision site (yet!)

no nausea (fingers crossed) I do have the shoulder pain and gas pain, about a 2 on a 1-10 scale where 10 is the worst. able to drink liquids great. Surgery ended at 3 PM and I got to my room at 4 PM and have walked the halls most of the time since. My tip... walk, walk, walk. It feels great. Lets hope tomorrow is the same or better. If anyone has questions please ask.

Nichole

Hi, getting excited but also feeling some trepidation. Trying to get everything finished up at work, before I start leave, so pretty busy. Wondering how I'll go, being a day patient, and hoping that my partner copes ok, if I am sick (he's a bit hopeless in that area lol)

Hey all,

Things are even better so far today. I was able to walk off most of my shoulder and gas pain (I must have walked 8 miles last night). Didn't sleep well in the hospital last night (noises) so I can't wait to get home later today. I am feeling just slightly sore on my insicion areas. I have a question. I cannot feel my port. I am swollen and bloated though. Had anyone had this? Will I feel it better soon?

Keeping busy is good, it will make the days fly by. We will have to compare notes on how we make out. Just found out that my surgery time has been pushed up an hour, from 8:30 to 7:30! It means we have to be there by 6:30. Kids will have to fend for themselves that morning.

And Nursenic, hope you are doing well. I would imagine that the bloat is due to the gas. Hope it passes quickly.

Been banded a week today. Was starting to get tired of of liquids already, but I went to the receipes that some people have put on this site, made one of them last night it was good I'm going to finish it up for lunch, Chicken Enchilada Soup. Tonight I'm going to make another type, hope it is just as tasty. Hopefully this will help till I'm on mushies. One week and 2 day to go.:)

Hey Pat,

I'm pretty sure today is your big day. Sending you my prayers and very best wishes for a speedy recovery. Let me know how you're doing. Hugs Lynne

Thank you, Lynne for checking on me. Yes, Monday was my day! Everything went well. I couldn't have asked for better care. Needless to say, I slept all day Monday after the surgery. Yesterday I was up and moving (slowly). The pain was pretty bad. It was better this morning but is trying to act up again. I'm tired of the backside of this journey. I am ready to feel good!!! Maybe tomorrow.

How are you feeling? What are you eating? I would appreciate any suggestions.

Well, I better go walk a little bit and see what's for lunch. I think I need someone to tell me to "Eat this today". I get confused. But I know that this too shall pass.

Blessings, Pat

Well, I am on day 3 of my pre-op liquid diet. It is going pretty well now that I have found exactly what I can eat. My surgery is scheduled for Monday, October 25th! I am so excited I want to shout it from the rooftop that I am getting banded, but my family doesn't want me to. So being on here will give me that release that I need! I'M FINALLY GETTING THE SURGERY I HAVE LONGED FOR FOR SO LONG!!!!!!:)

Kim, I'm being banded on the 25th also. Very excited also. I'm on day 10 of my all liquid pre-op diet. Not the easiest thing in the world, but muddling through. Good luck to you on the 25th!!

Hello! I was banded on the 18th, also. My surgery was out-patient. I slept very good....in my recliner. I understand about the bloating. Ugh! The incisions are not as sore today. I think I can feel where my port is. It is a little poofy. I keep telling myself, "And this too shall pass". I hope it is soon. I'm like you, I want someone to tell me what's next. Let me know how you are doing. We're all on this journey together. Take care. Blessings, Pat

Hi! I just wanted to tell you congratulations! :) My children didn't want me to have the surgery. I finally convienced my husband and he is really being helpful. I decided that I was doing this for me and I am in control. I had my surgery on the 18th. I'm so glad it is behind me. :)

I wanted to tell you that I am from Lanett. If I can be of any help, let me know.

Blessings,

PitPat

Hello everyone!

My surgery today was a breeze! Arrived at the hospital at 7:30am, walked into the operating theatre, and jumped up onto the table at around 8:30am, and woke up in recovery a little before 10:00am I was convinced that I had dropped off to sleep, while waiting, it seemed that quick, and I had no pain whatsoever! Had a few sips of water, over the next couple of hours, and dozed on and off, then I was moved to a recliner chair. I went to the bathroom, without any assistance, and then got dressed without any help at all, and was on my way home at around 2:00pm. I picked up the pain and anti nausea meds from the pharmacy on the way home, then tucked myself into bed for a nice comfy nap! My partner kept waking me up to see if I was alright, but being so sleepy, I was able to drop off again easily. I got up at around 6:00pm and sipped some diet soft drink...not too fizzy, but found it a bit difficult, and had to take a good rest in between sips. Then I gave up, and decided to have a black coffee....I haven't had a coffee for 3 weeks!!! It went down very easily I can tell you! It is now around 8:30pm, I'm still up, and still have no pain, so they must have pumped me up with drugs while I was under. The lovely caring nursing staff kept asking me if I had pain, and seemed really surprised when I kept telling them that I had none at all. I am touching wood, as I write this, as tomorrow might be a diffrerent story. But it is so good to be at home, rather than in a hospital bed. I am not feeling any hunger at all, a bit thirsty, but water is on hand at all times. So happy to have the surgery behind me, hopefully the all liquid stage won't be too difficult. At least I do like the coffee flavoured optifast, and I've stocked up on some yummy soups etc. Anyhow, good luck to everyone still facing up for your surgery, and I hope you have a great experience as well.... :wink2:
