Barium Swallow

I have been reading a lot of posts about fills and the barium swallow. I had one done in the hospital before I could be discharged from the hospital. I have had 3 fills in surgeon's office and the only test I get is to drink a cup of water. Does anyone else just get the water test?

I had Floro everytime I had a fill. Dr Spivak has one in his office. He checked your band placement and port and watch the barium go down each time

Yep, just water for me too. I didn't even get a barium swallow test after surgery. I did one as pre-op testing (yuck). Now only when there's a problem.

NO barium just water. About 1/4 of a cup and then I am able to leave the office if it stays down. I usually take a few swallows and then leave because nothing ever comes back up.

My doctor is a fluoro-every-time guy, too. But I think he's in the minority.

had barium swallow 2 weeks after surgery and won't have another for a year, unless i have problems. my surgeon does not use flouro, but does do the water test. so far so good. i've just had one fill so far, and it was a breeze.

I only had a barium swallow the day I was discharged from the hospital. I do the water test in the doctors office after a fill, each time before I am allowed to leave the office.

I never had to do a barium swallow. Not sure why but glad I didn't have to.
