How much weight loss is expected during the first 2 weeks?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on June 18. I weighed myself today and I was down 8lbs. I'm getting my appetite back and starting on mushies so I feel like I will gain that all back. I want to make sure I'm on track. I feel like all I can think about is food and my next Protein Shake. I don't get my fill for another 3 weeks, and I want to ensure I see some progress. Any suggestions for a newbie?

According to my Dr. and my nutritionist, NONE. They told me the first month was for healing, not weighing.

If you continue to read these boards, you will find that most people don't have significant, sustainable losses until after one, two, three or four fills.

Hang in there and follow your Dr.'s instructions. It will happen (for both of us!)

I would say everyone loses at their own speed... I was banded 05/04/10 and have had 2 fills totalling 2cc in a 10 cc band. I've lost 29 lbs so far. Best wishes!

My advice is to follow the post op diet the best you can, keep up your Protein and recover. The weight will come later. You can't have everything all at once---if you're hungry/thinking about food it could be you're not getting enough protein--are you getting 60 to 80 grams a day? This is a good time to address the hunger in your head. I guess my advice is to be patient.

Everyone is different. I actually gained weight my first month (prolly from the mushies) and my surgeon told me not to worry. After my third fill, the weight started steadily coming off, so be be patient as someone else suggested.

I lost 9 lbs in 2 weeks but, then after I got where I could eat I gained 5 of it back. Now, I am 6 wks post op and first fill and starting to lose again. I am going to have for another fill when I start eating more. Hope it helps ya and good luck on your journey.

Hey, I understand what you're talking about. I was banded the same day as you, and up until a couple days ago was down 17lbs (including the loss on the pre-op diet). Well I saw my first little gain yesterday (I started mushies on the 25th) and of course I freaked out, since I was used to the downward trend over the past 3 weeks!!!

I KNOW that this first month is for healing, and pre-banding it sounded logical. BUT I can't help but get worried, especially since I'm feeling 100% again, that this will be just a temporary fix, and all the weight will come back.

Just keep reminding youself (as I do) of what you know, how this process will go. I know I have to give myself a mental check a couple times a day. I guess this freak out session is just part of the process....it'll soon pass.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
