Am I Considered A Slow Loser?

I too am a slow loser, but so far I have lost consistently each week with the exception of the famous three week stall that lasted 3.5 weeks. My surgery was 12-28-11, I have lost 29 lbs since my surgery and that includes the pre- liquid diet. Most people think I've lost much more. So far the skin is pretty good considering I'm and old lady. I have always been a slow loser, have less than some to lose and have age against. It came on slow, so I will be patient. I see huge life changes already. At to months I was afraid my Dr would be upset, she was elated, also counted the weight I lost prior to surgery and thought percentage wise I was ahead of schedule. I had feared her reaction and she actually made me feel so successful. Keep up the good work!

    Stalls :(. .. Concerned,worried?

I am nearly 5 months out. I have three major slow downs in my weight loss. The first was the typical one at three weeks post surgery. I had another at ~2-3 months that lasted about a week and a half, I am now in my third one that has gone on for nearly three weeks. I am trying to stay positive. Past experience has shown me that if I stay with the program, the stall will break and there may be a significant drop once I start losing again. While the scale is 'stuck", I try to up my exercise and to not let the discouraging news at the scale tempt me to make poor food choices. This is not easy. Hang in there. These darned slow-downs happen to us all.

    12 days post op...

I'm three weeks post op (surgery 4/29) and have done the same thing. Just because I'm able to eat cheese sticks and ground beef with spaghetti sauce doesn't mean I should. I have been the same weight for 10 days. Realistically my head knows there is no way I could be gaining weight eating 500-800 calories, the stall has been getting the best of me. I have pulled out my one month post op diet information and will going back to my full liquids. I feel great, feel no restriction and everything I've eaten has been no problem. Hoping to reel my diet back in now.

    3 weeks post op

It's so common it even has a name! "The Dreaded Three Week Stall" Most everyone goes through it, and everyone gets through it! There is a sub forum called "Don't Sweat the Stall Stuff" you might want to check out. No fear! Keep doing what your doing and you'll get through it in a week or two...

    confused

In two days I hit my three week mark, and I've noticed a stall also. I've gotten so used to dropping weight so fast (46 lbs so far) I got bummed but then realized I've hit the phase where it's going to drop less now I've already lost all the water weight. Just be patient and don't loose the good habits you've gained ????

    Fill Nightmare!

My body is super sensitive to fills as well. I only have about 4ccs in an 11cc band. My fills have to be relatively small or I . swell shut. I got a .75cc fill yesterday and spent most of the evening swollen shut. Today I am getting coffee to go down, so far, but know that I would be in a mess if I even attempted thin mashed potatoes for at least another 12 hours. I will be good in a day or so and will be able to eat regular food, just smaller portions, again. I do drop close to ten pounds each time I get a fill like this, though. I like this kind. Makes it go fast. I then stall for about three weeks but it gives my body time to adjust to the weight loss. It seems to work well for my body and my system. That first 24 hours is rough at times, especially if I swell completely shut. I have done the ER thing to get a bit out but we only take enough to be able to get some Water down and then we stop there because the swelling will go away.

    First stall

I'm 8 mths post op. I never had the three week stall. I'm having an 8 th month stall, almost 2 weeks. Frustrating!!!
  8. Just wanted to share my story so far. I had my 1 week appointment at the Dr.s today. I had my surgery last Thursday 4/14. It has been an easy recovery for me. I was out of the hospital the next afternoon, Friday. On Saturday, I had promised to dogsit and went to walk dogs three times. I also grocery shopped. Sunday was two more walks and some errands. I have been out every day since. I have been doing doing some walks with my husband and yesterday we did almost three miles. The doctor said everything looked great. I am down 18 pounds, 10 since the surgery and 8 from my five day pre-op liquid diet. My starting weight was 237 and I am 5'7" tall. I can't see or feel any difference in my body yet though. Getting the Protein in is tough. I do not like the shakes but have been able to tolerate the Isopure drinks which is a big help since a 20oz bottle has 40 grams of protein. I usually get my 64 ounces of Water in and am getting about 60 grams of protein. I am averaging around 400-500 calories a day. My eating plan was nothing at all the afternoon/ evening after surgery, then 2 days of Clear liquids followed by 12 days of full liquids. Next is 2 weeks of purée and then 2 weeks of softs. Full diet taken slowly starting 6 weeks after surgery. 7 more days until pureed food which I am looking forward to - only to try and get more protein through food. I'm not hungry and making meals for my family hasn't bothered me. I am dreading the thought of an upcoming stall. I am also fearing losing my hair as it is super thin to begin with. I am off pain meds and have been able to sleep on my side since the second night. My only problems are slight nausea here and there, but not bad enough to have to take the meds they gave me, and diarhea. I was also lucky as my surgeon did not put in drains. My other issue is that i had the top of my hand turn black and blue, but it was not the hand that had the IV. I know others have had more issues after their surgery and I feel bad as I read their posts. I just wanted to share my experiences so far. Please excuse any typos as I am typing this on my phone and it won't let me go back and reread or edit. Good luck to all the upcoming surgeries!

    What if this is it?

I stalled for two weeks at about three weeks out from surgery. I kept exercising and I dropped four pants sizes in those two weeks but not an ounce of weight. I also I had to put the scale away. I was weighing myself several times a day. I was becoming really upset. Now I only weigh myself every couple of days. It's much better that way, so u don't see the weight fluctuations, which do happen. When my stall finally broke, I lost 13 pounds in 3 days. I have been slowly loosing ever sense. Just follow your program and your stall will come to an end. I have learned to patient, we didn't gain weight overnight, so we aren't going to lose it over night. Keep us updated on how you are doing. Good luck!!

    Please Help!

Congratulations on your surgery. it is not uncommon for people to hit stalls around week three (and several times throughout your losing stages). Your body is adjusting and still healing. Stick to the plan your doctor laid out for you and the numbers should start to move again. When is your next followup? Borrowed this link from Butterthebean's signature http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html#.UpUK1tKth8E Good read about stalls.

    2 Months And Stalled Already?

I am 6 weeks post op today...I have been stuck between 229 & 227 for three weeks. Its so frustrating that I have stopped losing this soon out...and being self pay, it makes me feel horrible that I have spent so much money! I too, am trying to focus on the NSV's and I am loosing inches....although not a lot. I would love to hear if there are any folks out there who hit a long stall soon after surgery....but went on to make your goal weight.
  12. Almost everyone hits a stall at the third week. It doesn't matter what you eat (unless you are eating milkshakes and french fries or something awful and need to fix it). That said, my doctor prescribed a maximum of 60 g carbs and a minimum of 75 g protein while on purees. I also ate a lot of eggs, protein shakes, and refried beans. Other things I ate: Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and various white meats pureed with different sauces, such as: sweet & spicy tuna (the kind that comes in a pouch) pureed with sriracha sauce hickory smoked tuna pureed with low cal bbq sauce lemon dill salmon pureed with olive oil mayo chicken pureed with marinara sauce, then heated up with melted mozzarella cheese turkey pureed with peanut satay sauce I was limited to 3 tablespoons of food per meal, 3 meals per day, no snacks (other than liquids/protein shakes). All of that said . . . the three week stall is completely normal and it doesn't mean you are doing anything wrong with your eating! I promise!

    Week 3 approaching 4 stall?

almost everyone has their first stall within the first month after surgery. In fact, we call it "the three week stall", because it often (but not always) happens during week 3. If you search for it, you'll find tons of posts about it. Just stick to your program and it will break. i stalled weeks 2 and 3 and it finally broke during week 4. Then I dropped like 6-8 lbs within a couple of days.
  14. Welcome! I think you are the first person I have heard from who had their sleeve in the Czeck Republic. I am not familiar with what your post-op program so can only share what works for me. First, please know that stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. We all experience stalls. Just about everyone experiences a stall about three weeks after surgery. If you intend to lose a significant amount of weight you will experience periodic stalls. Please read this for more information about stalls: Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall. This is what works for me: Follow my post-op program. Track my food (I use MyFitnessPal). Drink at least 64 oz of Fluid. Consume at least 100 grams of Protein a day. (Were you given a protein target?) Avoid starches, added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup), and fried foods. Practice mindful eating: eat slowly, take small bites, and chew thoroughly. Take my Vitamins and supplements as directed. Exercise. In addition, I recommend you use every resource available to you: Do you have: a NUT? A therapist? You may also want to see if you can find a support groping. One you may want to explore is Overeaters Anonymous. You can find meeting lists, podcasts, and other resources online at OA.org. BariatricPal is also a great source of support. Keep us posted on how you are dpi get.

    silly me

The stalls SUCK! Just got out of a three week stall myself, and nothing anyone said really made me feel better
  18. I am so frustrated. I am also smack dab in the middle of a stall. I have not lost weight since week two and this is almost the end of week four. Actually, I gained three pounds. I know that I am retaining Water because my output isn't nearly as much as what I take in but I am doing everything else. I am getting in my Protein. Yesterday I had 74 grams. I am going to the gym for at least a 30 min workout and I am NOT cheating. Not much to cheat with anyway, I am on purees. What gives? I just can't go back to all liquids. I think I will cry if I have to do that.
  19. @@rescue4_u welcome. it's kind of a known thing called the three week stall. embrace the Stall. search for stall. stay on course!

    3 weeks out

Phew! I'm so glad to see that week three is known as a stall week, because I'm totally there too. Today, I decided to put the scale away for a little while... for my own mental well-being.

    3 weeks out

In going on week five and can attest to the three week stall. I started upping my protein and added in walking and by the middle of week four I was losing again.

    Help me understand

Stay the course- following the diet as directed by your dietician or surgeon, and the scale will move on its own. The three week stall is just your body's way of adjusting. Too early to require changes in diet. The cool thing is that even though the scale gets stubborn at 3 or 4 weeks, your body is still transforming, for the better. If you take your waist measurements at the beginning and end of the dreaded stall, you will see a change. Your pants are going to be a little looser, despite the same wight. hang in there! We've all been there and came out great!! (I understand the frustration. My stall at 3 weeks was about a week or so).
  23. So I've read so much about the 3-4 week post-op stall, and foolishly I didn't think it would happen to me! Haha. I lost 32 pounds over the first three weeks and today was weighed at my doctor's and I've GAINED a pound. I was crushed. I know that it's normal especially since I began solid food a few days ago, and will resolve itself, but I guess I'd like to hear some experiences - how long was your stall and when did it/they occur? Did you do anything in particular to get out of it? Thanks!
  24. Hi I live in Maple Valley Wa. I was sleeved on 9/17. I started dropping weight really fast then during week three I had a set back I stalled on my weight for 2 days and gained one pound. However, I think it might be the blended foods I was eating. I am going back to what I was eating in week 2. I just don't want to screw up and gain any weight.

    frustrated

I was banded July 9th, about one month ago as I said above. I lost the easy weight right away the first couple of weeks, then the last 2 weeks, is when I stalled out. Im just going to be more careful of sugar and carbs and keep on eating well. I actually cancelled my lapband surgery and posted two threads saying I was really having a hard time deciding if I should get the lapband if I wasnt not overeating. Three folks attacked me saying I needed to journal and that I was in denial and so many said I must be overeating and just didnt know it that I rescheduled the lapband, but I was never convinced that I was overeating before I got the lapband, so how is it going to help me?? Well, I get my first fill Aug 16th, maybe that will help and the fills will surprise me. On another board, we had a turtle thread for slow losers. Maybe we can start a thread like that. I see some who lose huge amounts and I look and their surgery was 5 months ago, and Im like wow. And hoping for a miracle for all of us. The skeptic part of me wonders. lol. I wish I was as postive about the band as everyone else here seems to be. Im sure willing to be converted to a happy bandster.
