For those of you worried about hair loss, or you have thin hair right now
kooterpooters posted a topic in Food and Nutrition
I have been hearing promising things about castor oil for hair regrowth and to prevent hair loss.If you look up castor oil for hair loss on you tube you will see alot of videos about the thickening and growth results of just using 100 percent cold pressed castor oil on the scalp 2 times a week.I ordered some cold pressed castor oil from a vitamin store on the web Im gonna start using it now and if it works I will continue to use it.It also is suppose to work for growing eye lashes longer and thicker..I will let you know the results as I go along. Here are the directions for use 1.Put your castor oil in an applicator bottle that you can get at a beauty supply store,(you can use half castor and half coconut or grapseed oil to dilute.Or just plain castor. 2.APPLY small amount to scalp in thin areas or areas you need growth and massage in with your fingertips. 3.Wrap with towel, turby twist,or plastic cap and sleep overnight and wash your hair as normal in the morning..Only do this 2 times a week because castor oil is very thick and sticky. 4.You also can leave on head about an hour then rinse but overnight gets better results. YOur suppose to see visible results in 6 weeks you should see new growth and thicker growth. 5.For eyeslashes apply castor oil to qtip and apply thin coat over eyelashes at root. they say you see results with your eyelashes in less than 3 weeks. I havent done this yet, but as soon as my oil comes in im gonna try I have heard really good reviews. They say middle eastern use castor oil on their scalp religiously and their hair is always so thick and beautiful. WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED>Hopefully I will grow enough hair so incase surgery causes loss Ill have some backup hair.LOL:thumbup1: -

Sorry to hear that. I was really worried about hair loss. I have an aggressive anemia and bleeding disorder so I've had my share of hair loss. I started taking Biotin months before the surgery and then switched to the chewable form after surgery. Are you taking vitamins right now? -
I have very fine thin hair and was so worried about hair loss. I haven't had it happen to me yet - for which I am very thankful. From the very beginning, I was able to get enough protein in. Don't know if that is making a difference or not, and don't quote me, but I think I remember hearing at the hospital the hair loss happens around 4 months AFTER not having enough protein intake. So, if right after surgery you did not get enough protein in, you might be seeing the hair loss now. It should also stop soon if you've been getting enough protein now.

Hi. MOM I'm down 3 this week. Woo hoo! I am not like some of you who don't want a fill before Christmas. I am afraid NOT to get another one. The 3rd fill has finally helped although I do not have the restriction that will keep me from overeating sometimes. Like last night I wound up having a whole cup of soup and half a sandwich from Panera, so you who've been to Panera know that half of a Panera sandwich is like a whole sandwich you make at home. I just kept eating. No uncomfortable suggestion from the band to stop. I don't want to go through Christmas like I did at Thanksgiving where I lose my resolve and start eating things I know will make me gain weight. But I don't want to be like Tami (I think) and have to struggle to get down enough food to assure nutrition. I still worry about hair loss. I have a question about water. Sometimes when I'm really thirsty, I drink about 7 or 8 oz and then I can't help myself, I go right back for more. Then I get strange sharp pains in various places that are really uncomfortable. Does anyone else experience this? Is it gas? Sometimes I wonder if the water is putting pressure on the band and it is causing leakage at the port site or someplace. Any input out there?

Awesome. Thanks for sharing! I’m gonna go pick some up. Yes I’m also worried about hair loss I have tons of hair and I would like to try and avoid losing any as much as possible. Aww thank you! I’ll be rooting for you on your day as well. Excited to have someone to share a similar time line with! I’ll be checking up with you if that’s okay. -
I am loving this! I didn't think there were many of us here, OR who have been sleeved. I am scheduled for my surgery next week (May 8th), and I too am worried about hair loss, since my hair is extremely fragile to begin with; I'm getting it braided right before surgery, to be safe, but I also wear wigs everyday of my life, they're more like accessories now, so if it thins out, oh well, I've been there, done that! Everyone, would you please friend me, although I have my hubby, my daughter, and a couple of coworkers for support, NOTHING beats having people to talk to, who have been there! I'll be joining you on the losers bench soon! Wish me luck, and send up prayers! I am loving this! I didn't think there were many of us here, OR who have been sleeved. Three weeks is a long time. I'd hate to be out that long. I've heard of the food funerals but I'm just ready to cremate my fat clothes. I'm 5ft3 and 240 (whew.....I said that outloud). Aside from being healthy (getting rid of this dang PCOS, and prediabetes), my goal weight is 130-140, I want to rid myself of the muffin top, and wear pretty bras. My hair is natural and of course I'm worried about hair loss. I've been natural for a couple of years now and I've just started taking Biotin and I'm thinking about throwing in some MSM. I mainly do protective styles for a week or two at a time. I live in Raleigh but I work in Durham. Duke Raleigh isnt a Center of Excellence yet so I'm having my surgery at Durham Regional. Any suggestions for low sodium broth and Protein drinks. What did you have for your 3 wk liquid diet?

Banded 4/30/07 So Far So Good
Dudley replied to 4MYKIDZ's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This is my first message and it will be brief. I have not yet done the banding. I have an older brother who lost form 415 to 255 on the Gastric bypass. I'm 315 and would like to get to 200. I have yet to pull the trigger on this, just getting my feet wet a bit. I actually think I'll do it but have a new business that is just beginning to cover all the bills. I do worry about hair loss, the replacement diet and any complications that might cost me more $$ down the path. Any comments ? -
QUESTIONS ABOUT VITAMINS AND SUPPLEMENTS
Kimmie94 replied to esmeraldagarcia763's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Hey guys new here, I’m 3 weeks post op, any advice or tips y’all can give me ? I’m worried about hair loss since my hair is already thin 😭 -
Day 10: Following my dietician's advice, I progressed to stage II foods which are liquid pureed Soups, yogurt, Protein drinks, etc. I welcomed the change with opened arms -- truly enjoy having squash Soup (Campbells Gardennay brand). I was worried about hair loss and malnutrition. I am able to supplement my diet with powdered Vitamins, add some Udo's 3-6-9 oil for my noggin, and liquid Floradix for Iron supplementation. I also finally got some BeneProtein powder which is awesome. My weight went up about three pounds at the end of week one, but then dropped again back to the original loss. So I am still at a 13 lb loss after a little over a week. I was dehydrated after having the runs from the antibiotics (sorry TMI) and also OMG you girls out there, you KNOW what antibiotics do to a woman!!! Needless to say it's been almost two weeks since my husband and I were close. NOT fun! My port spot barely hurts now. I can feel the port right under the skin. I feel like the BORG! I am going to the gym tomorrow after I drop dd off for kindergarten. I haven't been there in MONTHS. Look forward to getting back on the xtrainer machine. I have to admit I am struggling. I am so incredibly hungry as I no longer have restriction. I think yesterday in addition to broth I had about four half-cup servings of the soup. At 110 calories per cup that adds up. Plus the yogurt I had was 2%, need to read labels now..it rang in at 120 calories per half cup. I haven't had my post-op appointment yet --- a week late --- since I had no childcare last week, and there's no way I could let my three year old run around while I was drinking rocket fuel! My post-op appt is on Thursday, then I _still_ have to wait to have my first fill. I purchased a BODYBUGG off of ebay this weekend and it should arrive this week. I can't wait to use it! I've also thrown out the Nutella.

I was worried about hair loss and looking older, but from what I'm hearing, as long as we keep up on our Vitamins, we should be ok. It's worth a little temporary hair loss in order to not have awful arthritis, and be able to chase my little nuggets around. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using the BariatricPal App

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow?
ByeByeBigGirl replied to jailynn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So worried about hair loss. I have thick hair so I'm sure I could afford to lose a little but still. I can't get all of my protein in no matter how hard I try. I'm only one week out so I'm sure it's still tough at this point since my sleeve is still swollen but still. Guess I will add some biotin to my daily routine. A lady I work with was sleeved last April and didn't have hair loss until about a month ago. I think she has let up on the protein thinking she was in the clear. I won't make that mistake!! -
What vitamins do you take daily?
Clementine Sky replied to LA_lady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Currently I'm taking two Flintstones Complete with Iron, and two 1000IU capsules of Vitamin D daily. That's it. It's been my regiment off and on since about two weeks pre-op. About two months post-op I switched to the Multivitamin patch (it caused skin irritation for me, but I gave the rest of the pack to my dad and it worked well for him) and then after that to Vitamin Code by Garden of Life for a few months. I switched back to Flintstones for the simplicity and reliability of them. They never cause any nausea or skin breakouts, I can buy them from a variety of stores, and I can take them on the go without Water. I eat ample Calcium so my doctor said there wasn't a need for me to take a supplement. I took collagen for a few months about six months out after reading posts on here from women who raved about it benefitting their hair, but didn't really notice much of a difference. I hadn't ever lost that much hair, though. It didn't cause any negative side effects for me, and was really inexpensive from Amazon. Some people have taken Biotin to help prevent hair loss, but many have said it has limited if any effectiveness. A few years ago I took biotin with the hope it would help with regrowth after cutting my hair too short, and it caused a massive breakout. My dermatologist told me that women with PCOS and those prone to acne should not take biotin and be very careful with all B Vitamins because they can be problematic. I was so worried about hair loss, but as mentioned above, it's been very minimal. I've lost at a slower pace than usual (but still have met my goals), and I think that might be the reason. -
I started using Nioxin a couple of weeks ago to keep the scalp in prime real estate condition. I didn't want to worry about hair loss after surgery. It's been drying out my hair, so I've been applying a wee bit of Moroccan oil on the ends. I'm T-minus 10 days, BTW.

Yeah, my surgeon said that if I do my 60-70 grams of protein, I shouldn't have to worry about hair loss, but since I'm already thinning I don't want to take the chance. The guy at GNC recommended these Be-Beautiful acai berry chews that have Biotin, Vitamin A & C, and Collagen good for Hair, Nails, and Skin. They are quite tasty.

7 Months Out And I Have New Hair Growth!
MissBliss posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost 7 months out , I was sleeved on 8/2/11. I have always been vain about my thick hair, if nothing else was pretty on my fat body, I always had great hair! LOL! When I started losing hair by the HANDFUL, I went into a tail spin. I was cleaning hair out of the drains, off the hardwood floors, off the pillow. Nothing helped, not extra protein, not biotin...I was pissed. Well the hair loss has considerably slowed and today my hair stylist said she see lots of new growth! WOO HOO! So for those that are worried about hair loss, yes, you lose your hair but YES it comes back!!!! So now if I could only get off this stall and have the scale move again.......... -

Anyone around my age that had sleeve surgery?(44)

Thank you so much. I have read so many posts on here, but it seems that MOST are younger. I am not as worried about hair loss as I am about skin and complications. I have NEVER been comfortable wearing a tank top/sleeveless shirt, and it is one of my hopes that I will be able to someday, I know that sounds dumb, I guess it's just that I see everyone else wearing them and I want to be "normal"Good luck on your journey!!!!
