    Pre-op nausea

The Miracle whey I got from Mercola tastes awful to me, but the Premier Protein drink is decent, though almost too sweet. Talked to Dr. office about the nausea today and they suggested taking an acid blocker to see if that helps, and if not they will prescribe an anti-nausea med.

    March 4, 2013!

Get your Vitamins and Protein and sip Water all day long, I found that in the beginning water was hard to drink so I added sugar free koolaide. I'm now almost 5 months out ( 8/27) to be exact and the only food I have a problem with is chicken Sent from my iPad using RNYTalk
  4. So this is the first time I've had a headache since sleeved (oct. 30) I ate my Breakfast had my Water and my Protein srink. I'm not due to, eat for another 2 hours and I feel too full to drink. Could this headache be cause of hunger or just a headache? Also I am walking around right now.

    Hoppin' Johns Recipes

I thought it sounded good, and just LOOK at all the protein and fiber! Of course, those are NORMO portions, but even so, this recipe puts up some pretty impressive numbers, I'm going to try it for sure.

    Banded yesterday....

doing fairly well. Discomfort is minimal but I'm missing food. Not a hungry feeling more like I want to eat. I have been drinking the protein shakes and was surprised that I can take all 8 ozs with no trouble. I do get a full feeling but that's it. Is this normal?
  7. Hey all! So for the last 3 weeks I have been at the same weight! I only weigh once a week, I'm not a scale freak! But I've switched up my diet a little bit, more water , more protein, diff proteins, my sugars are barly any and my carbs are never higher than 10-20 and I never eat bad carbs , bread , white flour ! What's the problem Ahhh! I'm 12 weeks out!
  8. Hi to everyone who has been or will be banded in September! It's been 4 days since I was banded (Sept 21) and apart from some tightness immediately surrounding my belly button, I feel okay. I can move very easily, I'm easily drinking the Fluid amounts & only occasionally getting any discomfort from drinking too much too fast. I lost 6 kgs pre surgery and I have put 2 of those kgs back on. It must be the sustagen Protein drinks and the orange juice. Weight is a funny thing though espec for females. I could weigh myself in 2 days time to find I've lost a kilo. I'm trying not to worry too much about the weight loss at this stage. The best advice I could give anyone about to be banded is to be very mindful of how much fluid you drink or sip over a 30 min or 1 hour period. There was a lot of confusion at my hospital about how much I could have and how often.....I ended up in a lot of pain the 2nd day simply because I had drunk too much fluid. For those who are interested, I found somewhere on the net that 500mg of Vitamin C helps with wound healing. If I can find that amount in a liquid supplement or dissolve it in Water it might help me I'm thinking. Anyway, again, good luck to you all and I'll look forward to reading about your successes.

    Liquid Diet

You can eat whatever you feel like eating actually. The point of the clear diet is to jumpstart your weightloss. Your stomach will have swelling from the trauma to the tissue from surgery. The swelling will be the tightness you feel when you consume food or liquids. Heavier things could cause you to need to throw up, it isn't a regular nausea it is more like choking and needing to get it out, and I am sure you have been told that that is bad for your band. If you are very hungry try some Jello, fudgesicles, or a cup of warm tea. These will help aleviate the hunger, as will the Protein drinks. You can get some from quixstar online with 35 grams of protein and just 5 carbs. The vanilla is terrific. I am in hormone hell and having hunger issues way more than I can control, I was done on May 7, 2008. You want to lose 2 a week at most or you get too flabby too quick. See some on here dropping way too fast and know that my sister looks awful after doing that with bypass surgery. I fought getting this done for a long time, but know it is my tool I need. Plugging away at increasing exercise and hope in the next 2 weeks to control the hormone hunger then get my 2nd fill. My best help has been reading on here where I can get some shared info and incentive. Good Luck and work into soft slowly so you don't get disappointed in your weight change.

Nymphs 1/17/08 What are you eating today?

B'fast: One packet regular instant oatmeal with 1/2 packet apple & cinnamon oatmeal made with Water and topped with 3 tbs of skim milk. Lunch: Lean Cuisine: Ground beef with elbow macaroni. Cup of tea Bottle of Special K Protein water. Dinner: 1/2 slice Turkey meatloaf, 1/2 stuffed shell and 4 tbs rice. I like this thread. It gives me some ideas of foods to try. I am such a chicken and afraid to try out my band on certain foods. Have yet to eat a single nut! FEAR! But it keeps me in check.

    Food for thought

I have had my lapband since april 2005 and have lost 80 lbs. I still have problems with some foods (bread, pasta etc) but am able to eat a normal diet. I do take a protein drink in the morning with high protein milk so that I make sure I get 60 grams of protein a day. That is my goal every day. Then I experiment with new foods every day. If they feel too large to go thru my band I make sure they don't. I do not limit my choices unless I make a mistake get something stuck which has happened twice to me. I don't let that stop me I just remember that is part of the process of re-learning to eat and learning to use the tool of the band. For those of you who have trouble with dry meat try low cal sauces to help the dryness. My Dr suggested using sauces as the volumn is low and it helps not only with the blandness of dry chicken or beef but it allows you to be able to swallow easier.

    oh now I remember

Welllllllll! After your surgery you will be on liquids....And protein drinks....That part of the program was really hard for me. I did not eat for 5 1/2 months because of my hospital stay....But now 10 months out I eat what I want in small portions of course......2 to 3 weeks on liquids and you will be ready to start puree food.... It does not feel like a diet to me at all......I am glad it feels this way...I hated dieting!!! That is one of the reasons I failed so many of them.....oops!

    Best Practices

I'm so glad I got a gym routine down pre-op. It really made getting back to the gym eadier afterwards, even if only to walk. My biggest mistakes, which i made both before and after surgery, was not anticipating how my tastes would change. I bought too much of various protein flavors and now I have protein I cant tolerate. Who'd have guessed i'd hate chocolate post-op?

    Low carb

My dr has put me on the famous high protein low carb diet. I can have no more than 30G of carbs per day. I am having no trouble getting in my protein but having difficulty finding things I will eat with low carbs...i'm sticking to the main ones I know I will eat (ie: chicken turkey cheese) Anything suggestions?
  15. Hello Lapband world, I wish I had known about this site months ago--I have read some really good information here. I am about to start my pre-op liquid diet, and I would like to know if anyone has found a truly tasty protein shake? I've researched on the internet and found something called Unjury I've ordered a couple packs of it but have not been able to bring myself to taste them. I am very anxious about the whole process, and scared, and nervous, but very excited! My other big question is will I have the extra skin hanging around like some of my friends who've had gastric bypass surgery? Or because lapband patients are losing weight at a slower pace, is this not a big problem? Looking forward to reading some good advice. Thanks to all who respond.

    Help! I'm feeling hungary!

What food stage are you at? When I was at 2 weeks, I was moving to mushies. I ate a lot of Protein -- Beans, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, eggs -- and that helps stem the hunger. My surgeon has you do 2 weeks liquid, 2 weeks mushies, then introducing solids. If you don't have to be on liquids at this point, move to the next stage. I never felt very full with shakes. I only got through the pre-op diet with sheer will power. If you need food ideas, look at the recipe section of this site and there are good recommendations. My personal mushy-stage favorite was fat-free refried beans with taco sauce and low-fat cheese, melted. Sometimes I added a scrambled egg for a fake huevos rancheros. Good luck to you!

    Proudly banded!!!!

I was finally banded on Monday WOOHOO!!! Had to stay one night in the hospital. So far everything is going good. Of course I am in a little pain and gassy. But I went to my daughter and son's veterans day program today and felt pretty good for the most part. By the time it was over I was definitely ready to go though. Now it is Wednesday night and just feeling really sleepy. Don't have much energy right now. I have one more day of Clear liquids before I can start back on my Protein shakes and some other liquids. Well i am glad to finally join all the other bandster and to continue my journey on here with all your support and encouragement and hopefully I can give some back.
  18. I've just discovered a great tasting shake called Limu Lean. It's 225 cal and 20 grams of protein. For more info you can pm me.
  19. Anyone know of a tasteless protein I can put into my soups and etc.?? Or is there such a thing (:

    Tasteless Protein

Several months ago, I was looking for the same thing. A nutritionist suggested egg white protein powder (I tried Jay Robb, but there are others). It is the closest to tasteless that I could find. I mix it with smoothies, yogurt and Crystal Light (you do need to use a blender, when adding it to liquids, or it will be lumpy).

    Protein

My doctor says that once on solids using Protein shakes as a Meal Replacement defeats the purpose of having the band. The liquid does not stay in the pouch nor does keep us satiated like a solid lean protein will. The whole idea is to be able to eat a small amount of normal food and stay satisfied for longer periods. But if you are unable to get 60 grams of protein in three meals then shakes and other supplements are a good idea.

Hello, I guess I should jump on board and try and get some support for this new journey I'm about to get on. I'm so excited! I'm self paying and so I am heading to Mexico on June 26th. Looking forward to chatting with some of you. -Heather
