need to lose lbs FAST!!! Help
kloee replied to Stargurrl*'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr had do the liver reduction diet . I just drank special k drinks and had a salad for lunch and lost 10 lbs in 10 days -
OK, so I'm trying out some options for when I have to do the liquid protien diet and found something really GOOD. I mix up a batch (2 cups) of SF Jello and add a scoop of unjury unflavored. I put it into 2 1 cup individual serving cups, then when I'm ready to eat it I add a squirt (small) of Redi-Whip. It comes out to 10 gm protien, 1 gm carb, 75 calories, and its yummy!! I think the whipped cream hides the slight wang of the whey protien or something, or maybe It just makes me feel like I'm cheating, which technically, I guess I am...

Nenny replied to HungryMel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Mel-- I am getting banded on 2/10 and can so totally relate to the questions/freak out moments right now! But everytime I start to freak out I keep my goal in mind and it's still more powerful than the doubts, maybe that will help you too? Please be sure to keep me posted on how everything goes!! Jen -
No, I am not Pregnant, thank you. I'm just fat.
HungryMel replied to hautemama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
SCREW ALL THE RUDE PEOPLE OUT THERE. You are still beautiful and after the surgery you will feel even more beautiful. Its sucks to be fat. it really does. i am uncomfortable in my own body these days. Just always remember the fat girl you are now, cause when you skinny butt is fitting into a size 10 jeans - and you are feeling fabulous, dont loose the person you are today. -
Can someone tell me about the drain?
NJMOMof2 replied to Melissal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a drain and my doctor said he wouldn't do the surgery without it. If you have a leak or an infection, it will show in the drain before you even had symptoms. My drain was a tube hanging out of the right night of my stomach and I had to empty it twice a day. The Fluid looks like kool aid (sorry TMI). It only fills a little bit and isn't too bad. My doctor removed it after 10 days. They remove it in the office and the hole literally closes on it's own. I was amazed it didn't need a stitch. The drain is the pain the the butt. It tends to pull and tugs. sleeping is difficult. BUT the good thing about the drain, other than peace of mind with infection, etc is that I spent so much of my time hating the drain, I got through 10 days of Clear liquids fairly easily. So, in the end ....it was a good distraction! LOL. The good news is that all this inconvenient stuff is TEMPORARY. By 3 weeks post op I was feeling Good and by 4 weeks, I was great! I even went sledding!! Good Luck. -

My first appointment next Thursday 11/18/10
Joleen posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so excited to have my first appointment with my doctor this Thursday. I can finally say it's less then a week away. I made the appointment 3 1/2 weeks ago! I am 5' 4" 236lbs. My hubby is in the military and we have tri-care prime insurance. I have a couple questions. First, since my insurance does not require any meetings with psych. nutritionist etc. do MD's normally? My insurance also doesn't require a 6 month waiting limit like I have heard others do. Do MD's make you wait then???? My doctor is out of Temple University, In Philly Dr. Daniel Dempsey. I was also wondering what problems would keep someone from having the surgery? I had heart palpations and went on atenolol but they went away when I lost some weight. I was going to make an appointment with the cardiologist that followed me just to be on the safe side. Thanks and good luck to everyone on your journey:smile: Joleen -
WLS is a full time job!
HeatherinCA replied to NJGirl32's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't remember it being that bad! But it's like that with any surgery. My doctor is a bit far too. I've only seen him twice since surgery, and probably won't need to for a long time, so it gets easier (unless your doctor gives you like 10 tiny fills) But the food planning, and remember what you can and can't eat quickly becomes a full time job after surgery it's a little easier for me now, over 4 months out, but it's still a constant "can i eat that?" battle. -
The Person on Ebay with the MUSCLE MILK LIGHT $5.99 A jUG IS BACK !
54Shirley replied to 54Shirley's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good ! I hope you like it... I know I do. It is made with Water so no milk is needed. I was banded 10/31/2006. I drink it all the time. It gives you some pep, and like my surgeon said they recommend this stuff so that your hair doesn't fall out. Some are good, and some are lousy. I like these two, and a few more. But the plain chocolate is terrible I think. There chocolate Milk is good. Hope you like it. You can, if you want... put it in a blender, add some ice cubes, and a couple of strawberries to thicken it like a shake. Experiment too. They have a site on here for shake recipes. So if you ever get tired of the same old thing,,, check it out.... Shirley. -

You should be fine - driving might be an issue? I had surgery on Wed, came home Thursday. Back to desk job Monday. Driving on bad NY roads is not pleasant so was walking everywhere for the first 10 days. -
There's a very good possibility that I may be on my period the day of surgery. Only 10 days left. Does anyone know if this is a reason for surgeons to reschedule?

Osmoprep or bowel prep day before surgery?
TheButterfly145 replied to TheButterfly145's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got more information... My surgeon's office said that the osmoprep does need to be done the day before surgery and that you HAVE to be home (in order to prevent any unwanted accidents). However, they said I can adjust and take at 2pm when I get home from work and then take the rest that night. On the paperwork I got it says to take some at 7 am and some at 7 pm - so now I get to wait and take at 2 pm and then at 10 pm with Clear Liquids only. I'll post again once I've been through it, just in case anyone else has to do this as well... -

I am a smoker(trying to be nonsmoker) who was sleeved. I quit for 6 wks before my surgery, then started about 2 weeks after. I started wearing the patch this weekend. I noticed this weekend, that my indigestion got 10 x worse whenever I smoked. So, as an experiment I stopped smoking on Saturday and started wearing the patch. I still have indigestion, but it's not nearly as bad. I know smoke effects your esphougas and stomach, I'm not sure but somehow only being one month out of surgery and still healing it's doing a number on me. I'd rather not smoke and feel good, than get my fix and feel like crap drinking Maalox all day long. It's not worth it.

Well, I have had my stomach scoped and the doc found some erosion. He advised me to stop taking my daily aspirin as he suspects that is the culprit. I also had an IVC installed through my neck. Anybody else had this problem with aspirin? So now I have a surgery date of October 3rd. Two weeks of liquids prior to that. I started this deal on March 31 so it will be about 6 months from beginning to surgery. I guess that is not too bad. I also have a cyst in my neck I need to have removed prior to the end of the year so I won't have to pay a new deductible off to get it done. Already had two cataract surgeries and a colonoscopy done. I have been at the hospital way too much this year!

What To Do? Should I Bug My Insurance Company About Approval For Gastric Sleeve Surgery ?
dominique replied to Mynewlife2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor's office told me it would take 2 weeks to get an answer. But I needed to schedule my surgery during the December holiday break because I work at a school, So after 4 days I called my insurance company. They said the paperwork should have been submitted to my medical group not to them. So I called the doctor's office and asked for the medical group's phone number. They put me on hold for a while. Then they came back and gave me the number. I called the medical group and they looked through the faxes. They said they got the request that day. I think the doctor's office kept me on hold while they faxed it over. I asked how long it would be until a determination was made. The said 2 days. Hmmm. So had I not called, the request might have sat in my doctor's office a couple more days. Now, I was in a hurry, so I pushed it. But I'm glad it did. I am scheduled for 12-19-11. -
7 Pounds Lost In A Week With Liquid Pre Surgery Lap Band Diet
khughes330 replied to jennilamb007's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started Tuesday and have lost 10 lbs. It was hard the first two days, but easier now. 9 more days! -
My surgery is tomorrow( today- it's 1:12am) as well. I can not sleep at all! Nervous is not exactly the word to describe how I am feeling at the moment. I laid down at 10:20p and could not sleep at all. So I got up and moved to the sofa in media room and will probably stay here until 5:15 am before I start getting ready to leave for hospital. Good luck to everyone having surgery later today! I will see you on the other side. :-)

I had my surgery Tuesday August 6th at 1:30. Well my surgeon was late so I didn't get in to surgery till almost 5. I don't remember anything after bing wheeled into the O R, I remember all the nurses after trying to take care of me. But mostly sleeping till Wednesday morning. My nurse was trying to get me to drink my liquids. And I was trying but everything I took in I threw up and then some. They had to give me everything by I.V. I couldn't keep ANYTHING down. The surgeon came in later on Wednesday and told me that I was probably all swollen. And my saliva was filling my pouch. And anything else I put in was overflowing it. So for the rest of Wednesday I took nothing by mouth. Then Thursday I was scared to try to swallow anything but I took a couple of spoons of broth and sips of water and it stayed down. But I wasn't taking as much as they wanted so the kept me for another day. I had no other pain. None of my incisions were painful and I had no gas pains at all. I was up everyday walking all over the hospital. Didn't have pain when i got up or sat down. My nurse came in and took out my staples on friday afternoon, i had 19 all together. Put some sterile strips on them and dr prescribed me my meds and now i am home and doing just fine.
